Dave Kennedy (footballer)
David Kennedy (born 14 February 1949) is an English former professional footballer who played as a winger. He made more than 250 appearances in The Football League for Tranmere Rovers, Chester and Torquay United. Playing career Kennedy began his career as an apprentice with Tranmere Rovers in his home town of Birkenhead. He turned professional in May 1967 and went on to make 17 league appearances over the next three years. In the summer of 1970 he moved to neighbours Chester, making him one of four players under–23 signed by the club during the close season. Initially he was to struggle to establish himself in the Chester side amid competition from Keith Webber and Brian Woodall, but the departure of both ahead of the next season led to Kennedy becoming first–choice on the right wing. Birkenhead
Birkenhead (; cy, Penbedw) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, Merseyside, England; historically, it was part of Cheshire until 1974. The town is on the Wirral Peninsula, along the south bank of the River Mersey, opposite Liverpool. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 88,818. Birkenhead Priory and the Mersey Ferry were established in the 12th century. In the 19th century, Birkenhead expanded greatly as a consequence of the Industrial Revolution. Birkenhead Park and Hamilton Square were laid out as well as the first street tramway in Britain. A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. As central midfielders often go across boundaries, with mobility and passing ability, they are often referred to as deep-lying midfielders, play-makers, box-to-box midfielders, or holding midfielders. There are also attacking midfielders with limited defensive assignments. The Football League
The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League. Keith Webber
Keith Webber (5 January 1943 – 26 September 1983) was a Welsh footballer. Playing career Webber began his playing days with Barry Town before signing for Everton as a 17-year-old in 1960. He scored on his first-team debut for the Goodison Park club in a Football League Cup tie against Walsall, but he was to make just four appearances in The Football League for them before moving to Brighton & Hove Albion in April 1963 in a £9,000 deal. After a year at Brighton and then a two-year stint at Wrexham, Webber moved to Doncaster Rovers in June 1966 before joining Chester in June 1969. In his two-year spell at Sealand Road, Webber helped Chester reach the 1970 Welsh Cup final before losing to Cardiff City, a fate he had also suffered when playing for Wrexham five years earlier. Brian Woodall (footballer Born 1948)
Brian Woodall (born 6 June 1948, Chester; died 4 May 2007, Chester) was a professional footballer who played in The Football League for four clubs. Playing career Woodall began his career by playing for top-flight side Sheffield Wednesday, who he made his league debut for during the 1967–68 season. One of the highlights of his spell at Hillsborough was scoring twice in a 3–1 FA Cup replay win away at Leeds United. Woodall made just one league appearance for Wednesday during the 1969–70 season and he spent time on loan with Oldham Athletic. At the end of the season he joined hometown club Chester. He made a bright start to his Chester career, scoring on the opening day of the 1970–71 season in a 2–1 win at Brentford. He lost his place in early October 1970 and made just five more first-team appearances after this. He ended the season on loan with Cheshire neighbours Crewe Alexandra. The Football League Fourth Division was the fourth-highest division in the English football league system from the 1958–59 season until the creation of the Premier League prior to the 1992–93 season.
