Dave Kelly (producer)
David Kelly (born 4 November 1969 in Kingston, Jamaica) is a Jamaican record producer and the brother of another record producer Tony "CD" Kelly. He began his career as an engineer in the late eighties. After getting into producing at the "Penthouse" label of Donovan Germain, he started his own label "Madhouse" together with business partner Janet Davidson in 1991. He went on to become one of the most successful dancehall-producers in Jamaica, recording numerous songs that topped the local and international reggae-charts, such as "Action" by Nadine Sutherland & Terror Fabulous in 1994 or "Look" by Bounty Killer in 1999. Dave Kelly has released some of the most popular and influential dancehall riddims such as "Joyride," "Showtime," "Fiesta", and "85". Kingston, Jamaica
Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica, located on the southeastern coast of the island. It faces a natural harbour protected by the Palisadoes, a long sand spit which connects the town of Port Royal and the Norman Manley International Airport to the rest of the island. In the Americas, Kingston is the largest predominantly English-speaking city in the Caribbean. Cham (singer)
Cham (born Damian Beckett, 24 February 1979) is a Jamaican-born dancehall singer-songwriter and actor, mostly known for his 2006 single " Ghetto Story" from his major label debut album of the same name, a song which led to multiple "story" songs by other artists in a similar vein. He is currently signed to Atlantic Records, and was known as Baby Cham until 2005. He is still called Baby Cham by his Jamaican fans and fans from around the world despite the name change. Riddim
Riddim is the Jamaican Patois pronunciation of the English word "rhythm". In the context of reggae and dancehall, it refers to the instrumental accompaniment to a song and is synonymous with the rhythm section. Jamaican music genres that use the term consist of the ''riddim'' plus the ''voicing'' (vocal part) sung by the deejay. The resulting song structure is distinctive in many ways. A given riddim, if popular, may be used in dozens—or even hundreds—of songs, not only in recordings but also in live performances. Since the 1970s, riddims have accompanied reggae music and through the 1980s, more widely known as dancehall. As seen in dancehall music, there is a voicing part – sung by the DJ – over some riddim that has probably been widely used in many other songs. Nadine Sutherland
Nadine Sutherland (born 15 March 1968) is a Jamaican reggae singer whose early career was nurtured by Bob Marley. She went on to become a successful dancehall artist in the 1990s. Biography Sutherland was born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in Above Rocks in Saint Catherine Parish. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, " Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. While sometimes used in a broad sense to refer to most types of popular Jamaican dance music, the term ''reggae'' more properly denotes a particular music style that was strongly influenced by traditional mento as well as American jazz and rhythm and blues, and evolved out of the earlier genres ska and rocksteady. Dancehall is a genre of Jamaican popular music that originated in the late 1970s.
