Dave Hollins
David Michael Hollins (born May 25, 1966) is an American former third baseman in Major League Baseball. Early life Hollins played baseball at Orchard Park High School, where he graduated in 1984. He attended the University of South Carolina and played college baseball for them for three seasons. Playing career Hollins was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 6th round of the 1987 amateur draft. After spending three seasons in the Padres' minor league system, he was picked up by the Philadelphia Phillies in the rule 5 draft after the 1989 season. He spent six seasons with the Phillies, and was a member of their National League pennant winning team in . During that same year, Hollins was also a member of the National League All-Star team. In 1996, he was traded from the Minnesota Twins to the Mariners for a player-to-be-named-later. That player turned out to be David Ortiz. A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in baseball or softball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base — the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. Diabetes, also known as diabetes mellitus, is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by a high blood sugar level ( hyperglycemia) over a prolonged period of time. In baseball statistics, a hit (denoted by H), also called a base hit, is credited to a batter when the batter safely reaches or passes first base after hitting the ball into fair territory with neither the benefit of an error nor a fielder's choice. Scoring a hit To achieve a hit, the batter must reach first base before any fielder can either tag him with the ball, throw to another player protecting the base before the batter reaches it, or tag first base while carrying the ball. In baseball, an at bat (AB) or time at bat is a batter's turn batting against a pitcher. An at bat is different from a plate appearance. A batter is credited with a plate appearance regardless of what happens during their turn at bat, but a batter is credited with an at bat only if that plate appearance does not have one of the results enumerated below. While at bats are used to calculate certain statistics, including batting average and slugging percentage, a player can qualify for the season-ending rankings in these categories only if they accumulate 502 plate appearances during the season. David Américo Ortiz Arias (born November 18, 1975), nicknamed "Big Papi", is a Dominican-American former designated hitter (DH) and first baseman in Major League Baseball who played in the American League (AL) from 1997 to 2016, primarily with the Boston Red Sox.
