Dave Barber (golfer)
David Raymond Barber (April 25, 1955 – July 4, 2015) was an American talk radio and television personality from Flint, Michigan. Born to parents of Croatian descent, Barber attended Central Michigan University. In the 1970s, Barber started his radio career at WTRX, where he hosted a talk program called ''Flint Feedback''. Barber's show often dealt with controversial topics, including an incident when he had a naked woman in his studio, long before the days of Howard Stern. Barber also did shows on WTAC (now WSNL) and WFDF. In 2001, Barber moved to the Michigan Talk Radio Network where his show was syndicated to radio stations across the state of Michigan. After short stints for Air America Radio and another Flint station, WWCK (AM), Barber moved to Providence, RI in 2006 and worked for WPRO and then Capital TV. Flint, Michigan
Flint is the largest city and seat of Genesee County, Michigan, United States. Located along the Flint River, northwest of Detroit, it is a principal city within the region known as Mid Michigan. Central Michigan University (CMU) is a public research university in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Established in 1892 as the Central Michigan Normal School and Business Institute, the private normal school became a state institution and renamed Central State Normal School in 1895 after the Michigan State Board of Education took over governance of the school. WTRX (1330 AM, "Sports XTRA 1330") is an American radio station broadcasting a sports format in Flint, Michigan. It is the Flint affiliate for Michigan Wolverines football and men's basketball, and CBS Sports Radio. Its studios are located in Mundy Township near U.S. 23 and Hill Road and its transmitter is in Burton near Dort Highway and Bristol Road. History The station began broadcasting October 13, 1947, under the WBBC call sign. It was owned by Booth Radio Stations, Incorporated and was a Mutual affiliate. Howard Stern
Howard Allan Stern (born January 12, 1954) is an American radio and television personality, comedian, and author. He is best known for his radio show, ''The Howard Stern Show'', which gained popularity when it was nationally syndicated on terrestrial radio from 1986 to 2005. He has broadcast on Sirius XM Radio since 2006. Stern landed his first radio jobs while at Boston University. From 1976 to 1982, he developed his on-air personality through morning positions at WRNW in Briarcliff Manor, New York; WCCC in Hartford, Connecticut; WWWW in Detroit, Michigan; and WWDC in Washington, D.C. WSNL
WSNL (600 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a religious format. Licensed to Flint, Michigan, it first began broadcasting in 1946. The original call letters were WFLM, but the station was purchased in December 1946 by George W. Trendle and H. Allen Campbell, who changed the call letters to WTCB and made the station into Flint's NBC Radio Network affiliate. The calls changed to WTAC October 13, 1948, still under Trendle and Campbell's ownership. WTAC popularly stood for "WE THE AUTO CITY", referring to Chevrolet and Buick plants formerly located in Flint, but it actually stood for Trendle and Campbell. Trendle and Campbell sold WTAC to a Hawaii-based group in 1954. WFDF (910 kHz), which brands itself as 910 AM Superstation, is a talk radio-formatted radio station licensed to Farmington Hills, Michigan, serving Metro Detroit. The station is owned and operated by Kevin Adell and provides sports, entertainment news, news updates, local community news, online podcasts, and live streaming content from a Detroit perspective. Air America (formerly Air America Radio and Air America Media) was an radio in the United States, American radio network specializing in progressive talk radio. It was on the air from March 2004 to January 2010. The network was founded as a left wing alternative to counter talk radio with a right wing perspective. Air America featured programs with monologues by on-air personalities, guest interviews, call-ins from listeners, and news reports. Several shows had million plus audiences, and multiple weekday presenters continued on in radio, television, or politics after their time on Air America. WWCK (1570 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Flint, Michigan. It is owned by Cumulus Media and it broadcasts a classic hits radio format. Its studios are south of the Flint city limits and the AM transmitter is east of downtown Flint near the intersection of Dort Highway and I-69. WWCK carries Michigan State Spartans college football and men's basketball. By day, WWCK is powered at 1,000 watts. But because 1570 AM is a Canadian clear channel frequency, WWCK must reduce power at night to 179 watts to avoid interference. WPRO (630 AM) is a commercial radio station in Providence, Rhode Island. It is owned by Cumulus Media, broadcasting a talk radio format, simulcast on co-owned 99.7 WEAN-FM. The studios for WPRO and other Cumulus Providence stations are on Wampanoag Road in East Providence, at the Salty Brine Broadcast Center, named after WPRO's longtime morning host. WPRO is powered at 5,000 watts, non-directional by day. But to protect other stations on 630 AM from interference, at night it uses a directional antenna with a two-tower array.
