Dave Anderson (rower)
David Rollo Anderson (born 8 April 1932) is an Australian rower who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics, the 1954 Commonwealth Games and in the 1956 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Anderson attended Sydney Boys High School, graduating in 1948. Both Nimrod Greenwood and Edward Pain, who were in the Australian eight at the 1952 Summer Olympics with Anderson, also attended Sydney High. Anderson did his senior rowing at the Leichhardt Rowing Club in Sydney. The Guerin-Foster Rowing History site quotes the Leichhardt Centennial History of 1986 wherein Anderson is referred to as the most prominent interstate and international Leichhardt rower up until 1986. In eight consecutive seasons from 1950 to 1957 he was selected in the New South Wales state eight which contested the King's Cup at the Australian Rowing Championships. Mervyn Wood
Mervyn Thomas Wood, (30 April 1917 – 19 August 2006) was an Australian rower and police officer. He was an eight-time Australian national sculling champion, four-time Olympian and three-time Olympic medalist. He later rose to become the Commissioner of the New South Wales Police Force. Early life and career Wood was the youngest of four children born in Kensington, New South Wales, on 30 April 1917. His father Thomas Wood had emigrated to Australia and entered the Police Force in 1905. Wood grew up in Randwick and attended Sydney Boys High School, graduating in 1934, where he represented his school in rugby union, swimming and most successfully, rowing. Following high school, Wood became a police cadet and rowed for the New South Wales Police Rowing Club. Rowing is the act of propelling a human-powered watercraft using the sweeping motions of oars to displace water and generate reactional propulsion. It took place at The Forum in Inglewood, California, United States from July 29 to August 10. The United States won the gold medal in both events, with the women's team's victory marking their first-ever gold medal. Lionel Philip Robberds, AM, Queen's Counsel (born 2 April 1939) is an Australian former representative rowing coxswain, national representative and world champion squash player and a barrister. In rowing he was seven times a national champion who won a gold medal in a coxed four at the 1954 Commonwealth Games; silver and bronze medals at the 1958 Commonwealth Games; and competed at the 1960 Rome Olympics in the men's coxed four. In squash he was a member of Australia's 1973 World Champion amateur four man team. As a lawyer his career at the New South Wales bar extended over fifty years. He was appointed a QC in 1982 and later a senior member of the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
