Davaoeño People
The Davaoeño people or Davaoeños are the permanent residents of the Davao Region of the island of Mindanao in the Philippines regardless of ethnicity or religion. Locals are themselves often referred to as a "tripeople", composed of indigenous peoples, Moros and descendants of twentieth-century settlers from the Visayas and Luzon. Cebuano is the ''lingua franca'' of the Davao Region, used by its inhabitants of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds to communicate with each other. Native minority speaks the near-extinct Davaoeño language. Davaoeños often also codeswitch between Cebuano and Tagalog, a phenomenon called Bisalog. English is also widely used. Davao Region
Davao Region, formerly called Southern Mindanao ( ceb, Rehiyon sa Davao; fil, Rehiyon ng Davao), is an administrative region in the Philippines, designated as Region XI. It is situated at the southeastern portion of Mindanao and comprises five provinces: Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental. The region encloses the Davao Gulf, and its regional center is Davao City. ''Dávao'' is the Hispanicized pronunciation of ''daba-daba'', the Bagobo word for "fire". The HiMiG Singers are a choral group from Davao City in the Philippines. History The group was originally formed in 1988 (DCHS Singing Teens) as a secular choir whose founder, musical director & conductor was Mrs. Evangeline Matunog Lapore, DCHS music teacher, a Davao known artist and soprano with a Bachelor of Music Degree majoring in Voice from Silliman University, winner of the NAMCYA in 1968 & DEPED Music Supervisor. ''Star Circle Quest'' (SCQ) is a reality-based talent competition which premiered on March 1, 2004 locally on ABS-CBN and internationally through The Filipino Channel.
