Daughter Of The Regiment (1953 Film)
''Daughter of the Regiment'' (german: Die Regimentstochter) is a 1953 Austrian historical comedy film directed by Georg C. Klaren and starring Aglaja Schmid, Robert Lindner, and Hermann Erhardt. It is based on the storyline of the 1840 opera ''La fille du regiment'' by Gaetano Donizetti. The plot had previously been used for a 1929 silent film and a 1933 sound film, and another film version was made during 1953 by Géza von Bolváry. It was shot using Agfacolor at the Soviet-controlled Rosenhügel Studios in Vienna. The film's sets were designed by Leo Metzenbauer and Hans Zehetner. A Tyrolean rifle regiment adopt a young baby girl they have rescued and she becomes the "Daughter of the Regiment". In 1811, as a full-grown woman she falls in love with one of the new recruits while the regiment battles French forces during the Napoleonic Wars. The Vienna Symphony (Vienna Symphony Orchestra, german: Wiener Symphoniker) is an Austrian orchestra based in Vienna. Its primary concert venue is the Vienna Konzerthaus. In Vienna, the orchestra also performs at the Musikverein and at the Theater an der Wien. History In 1900, Ferdinand Löwe founded the orchestra as the ''Wiener Concertverein'' (Vienna Concert Society). In 1913 it moved into the Konzerthaus, Vienna. In 1919 it merged with the Tonkünstler Orchestra. In 1933 it acquired its current name. Despite a lull in concert attendance after the introduction of radio during the 1920s, the orchestra survived until the invasion of Austria in 1938 and became incorporated into the German Culture Orchestras. As such, they were used for purposes of propaganda until, depleted by assignments to work in munitions factories, the orchestra closed down on September 1, 1944. Fritz Muliar, born as Friedrich Ludwig Stand (December 12, 1919 – May 4, 2009), was an Austrian actor who, due to his huge popularity, is often referred to by his countrymen as ''Volksschauspieler''. Biography Born in Neubau, Vienna as the stepson of a jeweller, Muliar became a cabaret artist in the late 1930s. He was a Boy Scout in his youth. After serving in the Second World War, he was imprisoned by the Nazis in 1942 and spent seven months in solitary confinement for ''Betätigung zur Wiederherstellung eines freien Österreich'' (activities to restore Austrian independence—see Anschluss). Gusti Wolf (11 April 1912 – 5 May 2007) was an Austrian stage, film, and television actress. Born in Vienna, Wolf was adopted by the painter, Felix Albrecht Harta who became her foster father. Wolf made her stage debut at the Burgtheater in 1934 and from there moved on to Ostrava, Munich, and Berlin. In 1946, she was engaged at the Burgtheater again, whose Honorary Member she became in 1987. She made her film debut in 1937, played mainly supporting roles in a number of UFA movies, and after the war continued her film career, playing alongside actors such as Hans Moser, Susi Nicoletti, Johannes Heesters, Marika Rökk, and Oskar Sima. Dagny Servaes (10 March 1894 – 10 July 1961) was a German-Austrian stage and film actress. In the theatre she appeared in the productions of Max ReinhardtStyan p.89 and Berthold Brecht. Servaes appeared in around sixty films during her career, initially in lead and later in supporting roles. One of her earliest screen performances was in the 1917 propaganda film ''Dr. Hart's Diary''.
