''Daughter of Cloud'' is a compilation album by psychedelic pop group of Montreal. It was released on the Polyvinyl website and in stores on October 23, 2012. It contains 17 rarities that the band have recorded since 2007, 10 unreleased and 7 from deleted CDs or 7-inch singles. The album was also released in a special-edition "Cyan" vinyl, which was limited to 500 copies. Critical reception '' The Line of Best Fit'' wrote that "existing converts will delight in the psychedelic cacophony, but those entering of Montreal’s world for the first time will most likely be left in a state of upheaval and disarray, slightly suffocated by the sheer diversity of ideas packed into such a small space." Buffalo Springfield
Buffalo Springfield was a rock band formed in Los Angeles by Canadian musicians Neil Young, Bruce Palmer and Dewey Martin and American musicians Stephen Stills and Richie Furay. The group, widely known for the song "For What It's Worth", released three albums and several singles from 1966 to 1968. Their music combined elements of folk music and country music with British Invasion and psychedelic rock influences. Like contemporary band the Byrds, they were key to the early development of folk rock. The band took their name from a steamroller parked outside their house. Buffalo Springfield formed in Los Angeles in 1966 with Stills (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Martin (drums, vocals), Palmer (bass guitar), Furay (guitar, vocals) and Young (guitar, harmonica, piano, vocals). The band signed to Atlantic Records in 1966 and released their debut single "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing", which became a hit in Los Angeles. Expecting To Fly (song)
"Expecting to Fly" is a song written by Neil Young and performed by Buffalo Springfield. The song appeared on their 1967 album, '' Buffalo Springfield Again''. It would reach #98 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in 1968. During one of the times that Young had left the band, he booked a studio to record the song with outside musicians under the impression that it would be for a Neil Young solo project rather than for Buffalo Springfield. Producer Jack Nitzsche provided the orchestral arrangement featuring a string section plus an English horn. The song does not feature any members of the Springfield other than Young. Live versions from Young's early solo performances appear on the albums ''Live at the Riverboat 1969'', '' Sugar Mountain – Live at Canterbury House 1968'', and '' Live at the Cellar Door''. Psychedelic Pop
Psychedelic pop (or acid pop) is pop music that contains musical characteristics associated with psychedelic music. Developing in the late 1960s, elements included " trippy" features such as fuzz guitars, tape manipulation, backwards recording, sitars, and Beach Boys-style harmonies, wedded to melodic songs with tight song structures. The style lasted into the early 1970s. It has seen revivals in subsequent decades by neo-psychedelic artists. Characteristics According to AllMusic, psychedelic pop was not too "freaky", but also not very "bubblegum" either. It appropriated the effects associated with straight psychedelic music, applying their innovations to concise pop songs. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne.
