Datteln is a town in the district of Recklinghausen, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated on a crossroads of four canals (Datteln-Hamm Canal, Wesel-Datteln Canal, Dortmund-Ems Canal and Rhein-Herne Canal), which makes it the biggest canal junction in the World, approx. 10 km north-east of Recklinghausen and 20 km north-west of Dortmund. Katja Seizinger, retired ski racing champion and triple Olympic gold medalist, was born in Datteln. Recklinghausen (district)
Recklinghausen () is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the centre of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is surrounded by the neighbouring districts of Borken, Coesfeld, Unna, Gelsenkirchen, Bottrop, and Wesel. The district administration is located in the city of the same name. Apart from the Region Hannover, Kreis Recklinghausen is the largest non-city district in Germany by population. History During medieval times, the area surrounding present-day Recklinghausen was known as ''Vest'' Recklinghausen, a territory which belonged to the Electorate of Cologne. From 1446 to 1576, this area was leased to the lordship of Gemen (now a part of the city Borken) and Schaumburg-Lippe. Egon Ramms
Egon Ramms (born September 21, 1948 in Datteln, North Rhine-Westphalia) is a retired German general who held numerous international commands. Ramms is a father of two. His last assignment was commander of NATO's Joint Force Command in Brunssum, Netherlands. As such, he oversaw all allied operations in Central/ Northern Europe and Afghanistan. Ramms joined the German Army in 1968, eventually becoming an officer candidate. From 1971 to 1975, he studied engineering at the Fachschule des Heeres Darmstadt and specialized in tank engineering. Afterwards he held numerous commands in maintenance units and became the G4 officer (logistics) of the German Army's 3rd Armoured Division. Subsequently he attended the German general staff officer course in Hamburg. In 1982, he was made G3 officer (operations) of the 6th Mechanized Infantry Division. Cannock Chase is a local government district in Staffordshire, England. Its council is based in the town of Cannock; other notable towns are Rugeley, Bridgtown and Hednesford. The district covers a large part of the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, from which it takes its name. The district was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of Cannock and Rugeley urban districts, along with Brindley Heath from Lichfield Rural District, and Norton Canes from Aldridge-Brownhills Urban District. Charlotte Becker (born 19 May 1983 in Datteln, North Rhine-Westphalia) is a German professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's Continental Team . Dunja Hayali (born 6 June 1974) is a German journalist and television presenter for public broadcaster ''ZDF''. Early life and education Hayali is the daughter of Christianity in Iraq, Iraqi Christians from Mosul. The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is the top international circuit of alpine skiing competitions, launched in 1966 by a group of ski racing friends and experts which included French journalist Serge Lang and the alpine ski team directors from France (Honore Bonnet) and the USA ( Bob Beattie). Ingo Anderbrügge (; born 2 January 1964) is a German former professional footballer who played mostly as an attacking midfielder. Football career Anderbrügge was born in Datteln. He started playing professionally with Borussia Dortmund, making his Bundesliga debut on 7 July 1984, in a 2–3 home loss against Borussia Mönchengladbach. After a final poor season, in 1987–88, he moved to FC Schalke 04, then in the second division. In his first three years, he netted a total of 36 league goals, eventually gaining promotion in 1991. A regular fixture on the team during the next six years, with the UEFA Cup conquest in 1996–97, his only professional accolade (he netted his penalty shootout attempt in the final against F.C.
