Dateline Diamonds
''Dateline Diamonds'' is a 1965 British music-film. The film was shot in black and white. The "pop and cop" genre of film was a popular concept in the UK during the early 1960s to highlight young music talent and was geared to appeal directly to the young teenage market. The film was a low-budget B movie and released to support the main feature film ''Doctor in Clover'' starring Leslie Phillips. Plot Major Fairclough is linked to an international criminal gang, which uses the MV ''Galaxy'' (the ship which was the home of 1960s pirate radio station Radio London) to smuggle stolen diamonds from the UK to Amsterdam. Fairclough blackmails Lester Benson, the fictitious manager of the Small Faces, into aiding and abetting his crimes. ''Marella Explorer'' is a ''Century''-class cruise ship owned and operated by Marella Cruises. Before joining TUI she cruised as MV ''Galaxy'' with Celebrity Cruises, and later as ''Mein Schiff'' with TUI Cruises. She was laid down at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, on 25May 1995, was launched in May 1996, and was delivered to Celebrity Cruises on 10October 1996. She entered service on 21December 1996. In 2008, after some twelve years of service as ''Galaxy'', she was renamed ''Celebrity Galaxy''. Vanda Godsell (17 November 1922 – 2 April 1990) was an English actress. Hal Erickson writes in Allmovie, "Vanda Godsell specialised in playing disheveled housewives, busybody landladies and blowsy domestics." George Mikell (born Jurgis Mikelaitis; 4 April 1929 – 12 May 2020) was a Lithuanian-Australian actor and writer best known for his performances as Schutzstaffel (SS) officers in '' The Guns of Navarone'' (1961) and '' The Great Escape'' (1963). "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" is the debut single released by the English rock group Small Faces, released in the UK on 6 August 1965. The song peaked at number 14 in the UK Singles Chart, and stayed on chart for a total of 14 weeks. It reached number 28 in Canada. Song profile The songwriting duo of the group Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane already had the melody for the song, the inspiration coming from Solomon Burke's hit record "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love." However they had no lyrics, so their manager, Don Arden, brought in Ian Samwell and Brian Potter to provide the words for the song. The song entered the UK Singles Chart at number 27 and rose to number 14, just missing the all important Top Ten. I've Got Mine
"I've Got Mine" was the second official song released by the English rock band Small Faces in 1965. The song failed to chart despite receiving favourable reviews in the British music press. "I've Got Mine" is a hard-hitting, moody R&B song and the first Small Faces single release written entirely by the songwriting duo of the band, Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane, and features Marriott on main vocals. The song's release was planned to coincide with the release of 'pop/cop' crime film ''Dateline Diamonds'' about diamond smugglers. Small Faces appear in the film performing the song, however, the film was not shown in cinemas until long after the single was released into the UK singles chart and so the group lost out on the expected media exposure and publicity. Don Arden (born Harry Levy; 4 January 1926 – 21 July 2007) was an English music manager, agent, and businessman. He managed the careers of rock acts such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Air Supply, Small Faces, The Move, Black Sabbath and Electric Light Orchestra. Arden gained a reputation in Britain for his aggressive, sometimes illegal business tactics, which led to his being called "Mr Big", the "English Godfather" and the "Al Capone of Pop". Ian McLagan
Ian Patrick McLagan (; 12 May 1945 – 3 December 2014) was an English keyboardist, best known as a member of the rock bands Small Faces and Faces. He also collaborated with the Rolling Stones and led his own band from the late 1970s. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Jimmy Winston
James Edward Winston Langwith (20 April 1945 – 26 September 2020), known professionally as Jimmy Winston, was an English musician and actor. He was the original keyboard player with Small Faces. Winston had apparently previously worked under the stage name James Moody. His acting credits include the 1968 stage musical ''Hair'' and the 1972 ''Doctor Who'' serial ''Day of the Daleks''. Small Faces In early 1965, Winston, along with his acquaintance Steve Marriott, formed Small Faces with Ronnie Lane and Kenney Jones. While originally a guitarist, his role was soon shifted to become a keyboardist.
