Dasyornis Brachypterus
The eastern bristlebird (''Dasyornis brachypterus'') is a species of bird in the bristlebird family, Dasyornithidae. It is endemic to Australia. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, temperate shrubland, and temperate grassland. It is threatened by habitat loss. Distribution and habitat The eastern bristlebird is very territorial and will often use a distinct, loud melodic song to mark its territory. Surveys have found the bird prefers to live in small, localised populations, and prefer to build their nests on the ground in areas of dense, clumped grasses. Populations An isolated colony was found in the Conondale Range in southeastern Queensland in the 1980s. In late 2021, it was estimated that there were only about 2,500 of the species left in the wild, existing in isolated populations in eastern New South Wales and southern Queensland. John Latham (ornithologist)
John Latham (27 June 1740 – 4 February 1837) was an English physician, naturalist and author. His main works were ''A General Synopsis of Birds'' (1781–1801) and ''General History of Birds'' (1821–1828). He was able to examine specimens of Australian birds which reached England in the last twenty years of the 18th century, and was responsible for providing English names for many of them. He named some of Australia's most famous birds, including the emu, sulphur-crested cockatoo, wedge-tailed eagle, superb lyrebird, Australian magpie, magpie-lark and pheasant coucal. The ''Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988'', also known as the ''FFG Act'', is an act of the Victorian Government designed to protect species, genetic material and habitats, to prevent extinction and allow maximum genetic diversity within the Australian state of Victorian for perpetuity. The ''Nature Conservation Act 1992'' is an act of the Parliament of Queensland, Australia, that, together with subordinate legislation, provides for the legislative protection of Queensland's threatened biota. As originally published, it provided for biota to be declared ''presumed extinct'', ''endangered'', ''vulnerable'', ''rare'' or ''common''. In 2004 the act was amended to more closely align with the IUCN Red List categories: ''presumed extinct'' was changed to ''extinct in the wild'' and ''common'' was changed to ''least concern''. Nadgee To Mallacoota Inlet Important Bird Area
The Nadgee to Mallacoota Inlet Important Bird Area comprises some 385 km2 of coastal and subcoastal land at the south-eastern corner of the Australian continent, where Cape Howe marks the junction between the Tasman Sea and Bass Strait, as well as the eastern end of the state border between New South Wales and Victoria. It includes the whole of the 207 km2 Nadgee Nature Reserve in New South Wales with the adjoining 167 km2 eastern section of the Croajingolong National Park in East Gippsland, Victoria. The western border of the site is formed by Mallacoota Inlet. Barren Grounds Nature Reserve
The Barren Grounds Nature Reserve is a protected nature park located in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales, Australia. The reserve is situated east of Budderoo National Park, and west of the city of Kiama. The reserve can also be accessed from the south, via a local road and a bush walk from the town of Berry. It is not far from the Nameless Sylvan Reserve owned by Bush Heritage Australia. The nature reserve has several good lookouts that offer views of the coast. Interesting rock formations can be seen at Drawing Room Rocks, a geological feature in the southern part of the reserve. The former Barren Grounds Bird Observatory is located in the park. The Budderoo National Park is a national park that is located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia; situated approximately south southwest of Sydney.
