Daspo
Department of the Army Special Photographic Office (DASPO) was a unit of the United States Department of the Army from 1962 to 1974. The unit provided numerous images of the Vietnam War. Unit history DASPO was authorized by President John F. Kennedy in 1962. Col. Arthur A. Jones was tasked with providing documentary films to the United States Army, the staff at the Pentagon, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and United States Congress. DASPO had three sections: DASPO CONUS (Continental United States), DASPO Panama, and DASPO Pacific. On assignment, DASPO teams captured photographs and videos of combat action, military movements, and military equipment. The officers assigned to the unit coordinated activities. Enlisted personnel assigned to the unit served on the front lines to provide the photography. The Pritzker Military Museum & Library (formerly Pritzker Military Library) is a non-profit museum and a research library for the study of military history on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. Arnulfo Arias Madrid (15 August 1901 – 10 August 1988) was a Panamanian politician, medical doctor, and writer who served as the President of Panama from 1940 to 1941, again from 1949 to 1951, and finally for 11 days in October 1968. Throughout his adult life, he warned about the increasing influence of the military in Panamanian politics and vowed to reduce its influence. In turn, he was denied his presidential electoral success in 1948 by the military. He was removed from his duly-elected presidency three times by military coups. The Commendation Medal is a mid-level United States military decoration presented for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service. Each branch of the United States Armed Forces issues its own version of the Commendation Medal, with a fifth version existing for acts of joint military service performed under the Department of Defense.
