Das Kalte Herz
''Heart of Stone'' (german: Das kalte Herz) is an East German fantasy film directed by Paul Verhoeven. The first East German film made in Agfacolor, it was released in 1950. The film is based on the fairy tale of the same name originally published by Wilhelm Hauff in 1826. Plot Peter, a woodsman and his mother live in the Black Forest where he exists by selling charcoal. Stung by the ridicule of the wealthier inhabitants of the village and desiring to marry the beautiful Lisbeth, he sees his only chance for prosperity by locating a good forest spirit, the small Glasmännlein who grants him two wishes at first, then a third wish later. Peter wishes for wealth that he purchases a glassworks but due to his inexperience the glassworks fails and he gambles his money away. Unable to marry Lisbeth due to his being pursued by creditors, Peter locates a dark forest spirit, Holländer-Michel, to make more wishes for wealth. Paul Verhoeven (Germany)
Paul Verhoeven (; born 18 July 1938) is a Dutch filmmaker. His blending of graphic violence and sexual content with social satire is a trademark of both his drama and science fiction films. After receiving attention for the TV series '' Floris'' in his native Netherlands, Verhoeven got his film breakthrough with romantic drama ''Turkish Delight'' (1973), starring frequent collaborator Rutger Hauer. The film was nominated for Academy Award for Best Foreign Film and later received the award for Best Dutch Film of the Century at the Netherlands Film Festival. Verhoeven later directed successful Dutch films including the period drama ''Keetje Tippel'' (1975), the war film ''Soldier of Orange'' (1977), the teen drama ''Spetters'' (1980) and the psychological thriller '' The Fourth Man'' (1983). East German Films
This is a list, in year order, of the most notable films produced in the Soviet Occupation Zone of Germany and the socialist German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) from 1945 until German Reunification in October 1990. The state owned East German film company DEFA produced about 800 feature films between 1946 and 1992. Besides DEFA, the state broadcaster DFF and the Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst (now the Filmuniversität Babelsberg) were the only other organizations in the GDR that produced feature films for cinematic release, although far fewer than DEFA. DEFA also produced about 750 animated movies and more than 2500 documentaries and short films. DEFA feature films are accessible and licensable as part of DEFA's entire film heritage on the PROGRESS archive platform. Eva Irene Probst (21 April 1930 – 19 November 2018) was a German actress. Biography Born in Berlin-Kreuzberg, Probst was married to Austrian actor Gerhard Riedmann from 1954-60.
