Darwin Hottest 7s
The Darwin Hottest Sevens, known as the Hottest 7s in the World or the Hottest 7s, is a rugby sevens tournament held annually in Darwin, Australia on a weekend in early October. The event is sponsored by Heineken and is hosted by the Northern Territory Rugby Union. The tournament draws club teams and national teams from many countries around the world, including New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Samoa, England, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and Australia. The competition began in 1989, as the Territory Sevens, with the inaugural event being won by Fijian team, Duavata. The tournament was re-branded as the Hottest 7s in 2005, and has been supported by the Northern Territory Government since 2009. The organisers in 2013 claimed it was the richest rugby sevens tournament in the Southern Hemisphere with a prize pool of $65,000. The tournament was cancelled in 2020, but returned in 2021. Junior Laloifi
Junior Laloifi (born 25 September 1994) is an Australian rugby union player. His usual position is wing or fullback. Laloifi last played for Zebre in the Pro14 till July 2022. Laloifi represented Victoria at the Australian Schools Rugby Championships, and was selected for the Australia 'A' Schools team in 2012. He also represented Australia in rugby sevens later that year. Laloifi joined the Sunnybank rugby club in 2013 and played in the Queensland Premier Rugby grand final in 2014. He was selected for the team in the inaugural National Rugby Championship (NRC) in 2014, and went on to score the winning try in the team's grand final win over Perth at Ballymore that year. In his second season with Brisbane, Laloifi was the NRC competition's leading try scorer, claiming 14 tries in the regular season. Rugby union is a mostly amateur sport within the Northern Territory in Australia. The game is run by the Northern Territory Rugby Union, composed of representatives from clubs, regional rugby unions, referees, and affiliated bodies for schools and junior rugby. There is no professional rugby team based in NT but the annual Hottest 7s tournament held in Darwin draws teams from around Australia and overseas, and awards prize money to the winners. Rugby union in Queensland has traditionally been one of the most popular professional and recreational team sports. The earliest known Rugby football matches were played in Brisbane from 1876 through to 1878. Rugby struggled to gain a foothold until it got its break in 1882 with the first inter-colonial matches against New South Wales, and the formation of the Northern Rugby Union. Between 1885 and 1887 it surpassed the popularity of Australian rules football in Queensland after the leading schools association decided to play it exclusively and after 1890 spread virtually unopposed throughout the colony. Australia Women's National Rugby Union Team (sevens)
The Australia women's national rugby sevens team, are the Australia national rugby sevens team of women. They were champions of the inaugural Women's Sevens World Cup in 2009. The team plays in the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series as one of the "core teams" on the world tour, of which they have been crowned Champions three times. The team also played in the preceding competition to the current world series, the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup. In 2016, they won the inaugural gold medal at the Rio Summer Olympics. Sunnybank Rugby Union Club is an Australian rugby union club based in the Brisbane suburb of Sunnybank, Queensland, currently competing in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition. It was established in 1969 and has won three premierships since it entered. History Sunnybank Rugby Union Club was founded in 1969 as a junior rugby union club, in the southern Brisbane suburb of Sunnybank. As a junior club, it was founded on the principle that any boy, no matter how good or bad a rugby player he was, would get a game. And so it remains in the ranks of the junior players at Sunnybank, however the word "boy" has been changed to "child". Peter Hewat
Peter Hewat (born 17 March 1978) is a former Australian rugby union player now coaching in Japan's Top League for Ricoh Black Rams. He previously played for the NSW Waratahs Central Coast Rays London Irish and Suntory Sungoliath. On 12 April 2010, it was confirmed that Hewat was leaving London Irish to go play in Japan. Youth Originally from Inverell in north-west NSW, Hewat is a product of Brisbane's renowned Rugby nursery, Nudgee College. In spite of this, he did not play his first game until the age of 14. A natural athlete, within a year he was playing in the first XV alongside former Queensland Red Elton Flatley. Lepani Nabuliwaqa
Lepani Nabuliwaqa (born 4 June 1980, in Suva), nicknamed Leps, is a Fijian rugby union footballer. He plays as a wing. Career Nabuliwaqa was an influential member of the Red Rock sevens team which participated in Fiji domestic sevens competition in 2003-04 season. He made his debut for the Fiji sevens team when he replaced Vima Tuidraki at the 2006 USA Sevens. He copped a six-week ban for a dangerous tackle but still he made the 12-man squad for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Ofisa Treviranus (born 31 March 1984) is a Samoan rugby union player. Treviranus played for Samoa's national sevens team and was part of the 12 men squad who won the IRB Sevens World Series in 2010. Treviranus made his debut for the fifteen men code against Japan in Sigatoka on 18 June 2009. He was part of the 2011 Rugby World Cup squad for Samoa, and played in three matches.
