Darussalam (actor)
Darussalam (12 September 1920 – 26 April 1993) was an Indonesian actor who appeared in more than seventy films in his forty-year career. Born in Bengkulu, he studied to be nurse before migrating to theatre during the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies, marrying Netty Herawaty while with the troupe Irama Masa. The couple spent the remainder of the occupation and the ensuing revolution touring the archipelago with a number of troupes. In 1949, Darussalam and Herawaty made their feature film debut in Fred Young's ''Saputangan'', appearing in seven further Young productions before migrating to Djamaluddin Malik's Persari. During their eight years with the company, Darussalam and Herawaty travelled to the Philippines and Singapore and found popularity among audiences, though Darussalam remained in his wife's shadow. Bengkulu is a province of Indonesia. It is located on the southwest coast of Sumatra. Raden Ajeng Titien Sumarni (28 December 1935 – 13 May 1966) was an Indonesian actress active in the 1950s. Born in Surabaya, she moved to Tasikmalaya as a child and developed an interest in stage acting, trained by her uncle and future husband Mustari, later acting for republican troops during the Indonesian National Revolution. Sumarni began acting in film in 1951, making her debut with ''Seruni Laju''. Over her five-year career Sumarni acted in thirty films, established her own film production company, and became one of the most popular Indonesian actresses of her time. Hajji Raden Mochtar (born 1918), often credited as Rd Mochtar, was an Indonesian actor. Of noble descent, Mochtar was discovered by Albert Balink and first cast in the commercial failure ''Pareh'' (1936). Rising to popularity after the release of ''Terang Boelan'' the following year, he spent nearly sixty years in film, while also becoming a businessman and farmer. Childhood and early career Mochtar was born in Cianjur, West Java, in 1918. He was a Javanese of ''priyayi'' (noble) descent. He did his elementary school studies at a Taman Siswa school in Bandung. In 1935 Mochtar was cast in the leading role of Mahmud in Albert Balink's film ''Pareh''. ''Rodrigo de Villa'' is an Indonesian-Philippine historical drama film released in 1952. It was co-produced by Philippine-based LVN Studio and Indonesia-based Persari. The film is the first international co-production done by a Filipino film studio with a studio outside the Philippines. Done in Ansco Color, the ''Rodrigo de Villa'' is the first Indonesian film production in color. Two versions of the film were made with each version having a different casting.
