The 'Dartmouth College Marching Band'' (abbr. DCMB) is an organization of Dartmouth College. About the DCMB The Dartmouth College Marching Band was formed during the 1889 football season., making it the oldest in the Ivy League. Since the 1960s, the DCMB has been a " scatter band" like every Ivy League marching band except Cornell's band. During the fall, the band attends all home football games and one away game. For the pre-game and halftime of each game, the band writes a script, intended to be humorous, which is read over the loudspeaker as the band scrambles into a formation which relates to the jokes in the script. During the football game, the band plays during offensive first downs, defensive third downs, and after any points are scored, and supplies various chants and songs. "All Star" is a song by the American rock band Smash Mouth from their second studio album, ''Astro Lounge'' (1999). Written by Greg Camp and produced by Eric Valentine, the song was released on May 4, 1999, as the first single from ''Astro Lounge''. The song was one of the last tracks to be written for ''Astro Lounge'', after the band's record label Interscope requested more songs that could be released as singles. In writing it, Camp drew musical influence from contemporary music by artists like Sugar Ray and Third Eye Blind, and sought out to create an "anthem" for outcasts. Scramble Bands
A scramble band - also known as a scatter band - is a particular type of field-performing marching band with distinct characteristics that set it apart from other common forms of marching bands; most notably, scramble bands do not normally march. In fact, the name comes from the way in which the band moves between formations – members run to each form without using a predescribed path; this is known as ''scrambling'' or, in the western half of the United States, ''scattering''. Characteristics Scramble bands often take pride in their diversion from the normal marching band. In fact, most scramble bands ''do not march'' at all, regardless of whether their official group name contains a form of the word "March". Like their marching counterparts, scramble bands almost always perform music using traditional band instruments. A cappella singing groups The Dartmouth Aires Dartmouth College's oldest a cappella singing group, the Aires were originally formed as the ''Injunaires'' in 1946 as an offshoot of the college Glee Club; the Dartmouth Aires broke with the Glee Club in the late 1970s. Although the Aires usually have about sixteen members, group numbers vary on a term-to-term basis. Auditions are held at the beginning of every fall term. Members of the Aires pick what songs to arrange based on the group's tastes. Because the Aires are such a diverse group, they end up singing a lot of different styles. Wilson Pickett
Wilson Pickett (March 18, 1941 – January 19, 2006) was an American singer and songwriter. A major figure in the development of soul music, Pickett recorded over 50 songs which made the US R&B charts, many of which crossed over to the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Among his best-known hits are "In the Midnight Hour" (which he co-wrote), " Land of 1,000 Dances", "634-5789 (Soulsville, U.S.A.)", " Mustang Sally", "Funky Broadway", "Engine No. 9", and "Don't Knock My Love". The Foundations
The Foundations were a British soul band (m. 1967–1970). The group's background was: West Indian, White British, and Sri Lankan. Their 1967 debut single "Baby Now That I've Found You" reached number one in the UK and Canada, and number eleven in the US, while their 1968 single "Build Me Up Buttercup" reached number two in the UK and number three on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100.
