Emo GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Emo, County Laois, Ireland. History The club was founded in the 1950s and club colours are white with a red hoop. Famous players past and present include Gabriel Lawlor, Mick Lawlor and Paddy Brophy. Paddy Brophy, Ger Lawlor and Martin Corcorcan were all members of the famous 1986 League winning panel, Paddy playing with a torn hamstring on that marvellous day. Gabriel Lawlor was manager of the first Laois minor team to win an All-Ireland title, starting the great under-age success of the late nineties and early two thousands. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Laois) or Laois GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Laois. The county board is also responsible for the Laois county teams. The county football team contested the second ever All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) final in 1889. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Emo is a rock music genre characterized by emotional, often confessional lyrics. It emerged as a style of and hardcore punk from the Washington D.C. hardcore punk scene, where it was known as emotional hardcore or emocore and pioneered by bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace.
