Darren Stewart is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s. He played for Penrith and South Sydney in the NSWRL competition. Playing career Stewart made his first grade debut in round 5 of the 1990 NSWRL season against Brisbane at Lang Park. Stewart played a total of seven games for Penrith in his first season mainly from the bench or on the wing. The following year, Stewart was part of the squad which claimed the 1991 premiership, Penrith's first since entering the competition in 1967. Penrith Panthers
The Penrith Panthers are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the western Sydney suburb of Penrith that competes in the NRL. The team is based west of the centre of Sydney, at the foot of the Blue Mountains. Penrith are the current reigning NRL Premiers, having won the title four times. 1990 NSWRL Season
The 1990 New South Wales Rugby League season was the eighty-third season of professional rugby league football in Australia. Sixteen clubs competed for the J J Giltinan Shield and Winfield Cup during the premiership season, which culminated in a grand final between the previous season's premiers, the Canberra Raiders and the Penrith Panthers, who were making their grand final debut. Season summary For the 1990 season, the salary cap was introduced in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership. Twenty-two regular season rounds were played from March till August, resulting in a top six of Canberra, Brisbane, Penrith, Manly, Balmain and Newcastle. The Parramatta Eels are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the Sydney suburb of Parramatta that competes in the National Rugby League. The Parramatta District Rugby League Football Club was formed in 1947, and their home ground was Parramatta Stadium (formerly Cumberland Oval).
