Scott Edward George Bishop is a Canadian naval flag officer serving as a Vice Admiral in the Royal Canadian Navy. He presently serves as Canada's Military Representative to the NATO Military Committee, and was commander of the Canadian Forces Intelligence Command from 2016 to 2021. Background Bishop joined the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve in 1983 before joining the Regular Force in 1985. His first regular post was as a bridge watch-keeping officer on HMCS Restigouche. __NOTOC__ The Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) is a military award presented to members of the United States Armed Forces who distinguished themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to the United States subsequent to January 16, 1969. The MSM was previously awarded as a decoration for achievement during peacetime, but effective September 11, 2001 this decoration may also be bestowed in lieu of the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in a designated combat theater. The NATO Medal is an international military decoration which is awarded to various militaries of the world under the authority of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). It is manufactured by Eekelers-Centini Intl, of Hemiksem, Belgium. Background The NATO Medal was first established in 1996 to recognize individuals who had served in the Implementation Force (IFOR) as part of Operation Joint Endeavor in Former Yugoslavia. A new ribbon was established in 1999 for participants in Operation Allied Force in Kosovo. As NATO operations became more common, different ribbons were established for each operation. In early 2003 NATO settled on only three ribbon styles - one for the NATO Meritorious Service Medal, one for Article 5 operations, and one for non-Article 5 operations. The Special Service Medal (french: Médaille du service spécial) is a service medal awarded to members of the Canadian Forces. The medal was established by letters patent by Queen Elizabeth II on 16 June 1984. Recipients of this medal must have performed, "service under exceptional circumstances". The medal is always issued with a bar which specifies the special service which the medal recognizes. Each bar has its own criteria. Appearance The medal is made of copper and zinc alloy and is circular, in diameter. The obverse depicts a maple leaf surrounded by a laurel wreath.
