Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. Richmond traditionally wears a black guernsey with a yellow sash. The club song, " We're From Tigerland", is well known for its "yellow and black" refrain. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Nathan Bower
Nathan Bower (born 8 June 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. Bower was one of three brothers from Mildura to play for Richmond, with Brendan and Darren Bower the others. He was picked up early in the 1989 VFL draft, for the 15th selection and was used at Richmond as a wingman, half back and tagger. In 1993 he averaged 14.82 disposals but played just half the season. Only once, in 1995, did Bower play a full year in the seniors and his 20 games included three finals where he put in some decent performances.
