Darkness Divided was an American Christian metalcore band from San Antonio, Texas, formed in 2010 by brothers Gerard, Christopher, and Joseph Mora. The band had released two studio albums through Victory Records as well as an independent EP. History Early years and formation (2010–2012) As teenagers, the Mora brothers performed worship music together at their local church, mostly performing covers of contemporary worship songs. In 2010, the brothers changed genres and started Darkness Divided with original drummer Colby Moreno and second guitar/backup vocalist Joey Jiménez after becoming fans of metal music. The new band was named Darkness Divided after the Biblical verse Genesis 1:4, and is described by the band as a reference to finding hope in tough times. Metalcore (also known as metallic hardcore) is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Other defining instrumental qualities include heavy riffs and stop-start rhythm guitar playing, occasional blast beats, and double bass drumming. Victory Records
Victory Records is a Chicago-based record label founded by Tony Brummel. It operates a music publishing company called "Another Victory, Inc." and is the distributor of several record labels. It has featured many prominent artists including Thursday, Hawthorne Heights, Silverstein, Taking Back Sunday, Bayside, Streetlight Manifesto, and A Day to Remember. In September 2019, years after buying part of the label's catalogue, Concord bought Victory Records and Another Victory for $30 million.
