Dariusz Świercz
Dariusz Świercz (born 31 May 1994) is a Polish-American chess player playing for the United States. He is the 30th- youngest player in history and the youngest Polish player of all time to qualify for the title Grandmaster; he was 14 years and seven months when he achieved this title in 2009. In 2018 he switched his national federation to the United States. Since 2019, Dariusz has been married to Keyla Swiercz. Świercz won the 2011 World Junior Chess Championship at the age of 17 and is currently the only Polish male chess player to win this title. The following year he also won the Under 18 World Championship. Chess beginnings Świercz learned how to play chess at the age of three from his grandfather. Tarnowskie Góry
Tarnowskie Góry (German: ''Tarnowitz''; szl, Tarnowske Gōry) is a town in Silesia, southern Poland, located in the Silesian Highlands near Katowice. On the south it borders the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union, a megalopolis, the greater Silesian metropolitan area populated by about 5,294,000 people. The population of the town is 61,842 (2021). As of 1999, it is part of Silesian Voivodeship, previously Katowice Voivodeship. The Historic Silver Mine of Tarnowskie Góry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is located in the town. The Chess World Cup 2013 was a 128-player single-elimination tournament, single-elimination chess tournament, played between 11 August and 2 September 2013, in the hotel Scandic Hotels, Scandic Tromsø in Tromsø, Norway. It was won by Vladimir Kramnik, who defeated Dmitry Andreikin 2½–1½ in the final match. The finalists qualified for the World Chess Championship 2014#Candidates Tournament, 2014 Candidates Tournament. The World Youth Chess Championship is a FIDE-organized worldwide chess competition for boys and girls under the age of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. Twelve world champions are crowned every year. Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship
The Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship is the foremost intercollegiate team chess championship in the Americas. Hosted in part by the United States Chess Federation, the Pan-Am Intercollegiate is open to any team comprising four players and up to two alternates from the same post-secondary school (university, college, community college) in North America, Central America, South America, or the Caribbean. The Pan-Am began as such in 1946 (there had been earlier versions open to U.S. schools only), and is held annually, usually December 27–30. It has usually been held in the United States, but was hosted in Canada four times (1969, 1971, 1984, 1999). Millionaire Chess was a company which organised the Millionaire Chess Open chess tournament. The tournament was associated with grandmaster Maurice Ashley. The 2014 iteration of the tournament featured a $1,000,000 prize fund, the largest for an open tournament at the time. Low participation, with 400 out of a desired 1000 partipants, and an inability to cover the costs of the competition, led to the third iteration in 2016 being the last running of the tournament.
