Darci Luiz Simon (born 25 May 1966), simply known as Darci, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a attacking midfielder and forward. Career Having played for several major Brazilian teams, Darci made history mainly at Grêmio, the club that revealed him, Atlético Mineiro, Palmeiras and Coritiba, the club where he scored the decisive goal in the 1999 Campeonato Paranaense title. In 1989, in a match Grêmio vs. Palmeiras, he ended up seriously injuring striker Mirandinha in a fight, with a kick to the face, having the opponent player to undergo surgery on the face. The Copa Mercosur (, pt, Copa Mercosul , "Mercosur Cup") was a football competition played from 1998 to 2001 by the traditional top clubs from Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile. The competition was created by CONMEBOL to generate TV money to the participating teams, but it went beyond and ended up, together with the Copa Merconorte, as natural replacement to the CONMEBOL Cup. These two, Copa Merconorte and Copa Mercosur, were replaced in 2002 by the Copa Sudamericana. Format Twenty teams played in the tournament. The Copa do Brasil 1998 was the 10th staging of the Copa do Brasil. The competition started on January 20, 1998, and concluded on May 30, 1998, with the second leg of the final, held at the Estádio do Morumbi in São Paulo, in which Palmeiras lifted the trophy for the first time with a 2–0 victory over Cruzeiro. Romário, of Flamengo, with 7 goals, was the competition's topscorer. Format The preliminary round was disputed by 20 clubs, while the first stage was disputed by 32 clubs, including the ones qualified from the preliminary stage. Campeonato Mineiro is the state football league of the state of Minas Gerais and is controlled by the Minas Gerais Football Federation FMF (Federação Mineira de Futebol).
