Daphne Clarke
Daphne Clarke (also Lawrence) is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera ''Neighbours'', played by Elaine Smith. Daphne was created by Reg Watson as one of ''Neighbours''' twelve original characters. The producer had originally wanted Rebecca Gibney to play the role, but she joined the cast of another television series. When Smith came in to audition for a guest part, her appearance, particularly her short haircut, caught the attention of the casting director, who had been looking for an "outrageous image" for the character of Daphne. Smith won the role and she made her on-screen debut in the soap's first episode, which was broadcast on 18 March 1985. Daphne was portrayed as a smart, confident and independent woman from a good background. She sported a short haircut and bright clothing, which made her stand out from the other female characters on television at the time. Elaine Smith (actress)
Elaine Smith (born 23 April 1962) is a Scottish-Australian former actress who found fame on television series '' Neighbours'' in 1985 as original character Daphne Clarke. Biography Smith auditioned for a guest role in new series ''Neighbours'' in 1984. However her appearance, particularly her short spiky hair, caught the attention of the casting director and she was cast as regular character Daphne Lawrence. Smith continued in the role until 1988. Prior to this she had a small guest role in soap opera '' Sons and Daughters'' in 1984 as a flight attendant. Subsequent credits include ''The Flying Doctors'', '' State Coroner'', ''Always Greener'', '' Home and Away'' and '' All Saints'' in 2006. She returned to University to earn a degree in teaching, and as of 2017 worked as a drama and primary school teacher in an inner west Sydney public school. Johnny Lockwood
John Sidney Lockwood (7 December 192025 April 2013) was a British variety entertainer, comedian and actor, who also became notable in Australia after emigrating to that country. Lockwood worked in radio, theatre, television and film. He became well known for his role in the Australian television soap opera ''Number 96'' playing bumbling Hungarian Jewish deli proprietor Aldo Godolfus from 1972 until 1975, a centralcast member opposite Philippa Baker who would play his future wife Roma and naive rebellious teenage daughter Rose (played by Vivienne Garrett). The comedy of much of the duo of Aldo and Roma, stemmed from the fact they where both European immigrants, (Aldo from Hungary, And Roma from Russia), who had trouble understanding the local language. Beverley Ruth Dunn (24 April 1933 – 27 November 2021) was an Australian veteran radio, stage, television and film actress based in Melbourne, Australia. Dunn had roles in films including ''Ground Zero'', '' Gross Misconduct'', '' Shine'' (1996), '' The Craic'' (1999), ''The Dish'' (2000) and ''Charlie and Boots'' (2009).
