Daníel Jakobsson
Daníel Jakobsson (born August 17, 1973) is an Icelandic former cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier and politician. He competed at the 1994 Winter Olympics in 15–50 km events and placed 44–65. During his career, he won several Icelandic championships in cross-country skiing. After his skiing career he served as the mayor of Ísafjörður from 2010 to 2014. Early life Daníel was born in Reykjavík, Iceland, to Jakob Hjálmarsson, the future priest of the Reykjavík Cathedral, and Auður Daníelsdóttir. He lived in Seyðisfjörður for his first four years before moving with his family to Ísafjörður where his father became a priest. In Ísafjörður he came across cross-country skiing. Reykjavík ( ; ) is the capital and largest city of Iceland. It is located in southwestern Iceland, on the southern shore of Faxaflói bay. Reykjavík Cathedral ( Icelandic: ''Dómkirkjan í Reykjavík'') is a cathedral church in Reykjavík, Iceland, the seat of the Bishop of Iceland and mother church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland, as well as the parish church of the old city centre and environs. It is located at Austurvöllur, and next to it is Alþingishúsið (the parliament house). Since Iceland's parliament, the Alþingi, was resurrected in 1845, each session of parliament has begun with a Mass at the cathedral, and from there the dean of the cathedral leads the members of parliament to the parliament house. Seyðisfjörður () is a town in the Eastern Region of Iceland at the innermost point of the fjord of the same name. The town is located in the municipality of Múlaþing. A road over Fjarðarheiði mountain pass (elevation ) connects Seyðisfjörður to the rest of Iceland; to the ring road and Egilsstaðir. Seyðisfjörður is surrounded by mountains with the most prominent Mt. Bjólfur to the west (1085 m) and Strandartindur (1010 m) to the east.
