Dany Cotton
Danielle Amara Cotton, (born 11 June 1969) is a British retired firefighter. From 2017–2019, she served as the Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade and was the first woman to hold this position. She had previously been the Director of Safety and Assurance at the London Fire Brigade. In 2004 Cotton became the first woman to be awarded the Queen's Fire Service Medal. She is the Patron of Women in the Fire Service UK. Early life and education Cotton (known as Dany), was born on 11 June 1969, in London. As a teenager she was a member of the Air Training Corps. Career Cotton joined London Fire Brigade in 1988, and her first placement was at Wimbledon Fire Station. Aged 19, she had been a full firefighter for just three months when she attended the Clapham Junction rail crash. Commissioner Of London Fire Brigade
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) is the fire and rescue service for London, the capital of the United Kingdom. It was formed by the Metropolitan Fire Brigade Act 1865, under the leadership of superintendent Eyre Massey Shaw. It has 5,992staff, including 5,096 operational firefighters and officers based at 102 fire stations (plus one river station). The LFB is led by the Commissioner for Fire and Emergency Planning, a position currently held by Andy Roe. The brigade and Commissioner are overseen by the Greater London Authority, which in 2018 took over these responsibilities from the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA). Andrew Roe
Major General Andrew Michael Roe, is a senior British Army officer who currently serves as Chief Executive and Commandant of the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. Military career Roe was commissioned into the Green Howards in April 1992. He became commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion, the Yorkshire Regiment, in April 2011. He went on to be commander 38 (Irish) Brigade in August 2015, Assistant Commandant (Land) of the Joint Services Command and Staff College in August 2017 and Commandant of the Joint Services Command and Staff College in May 2019. Chief Fire Officers Association
The Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) is the professional body representing senior fire officers in the United Kingdom. The organisation used to be known as the Chief and Assistant Chief Fire Officers Association, it was formed in 1974 following local government re-structuring. Since 2017, the operational activity of the CFOA has been delivered by the new National Fire Chiefs Council. London Fire And Emergency Planning Authority
The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) was a functional body of the Greater London Authority (GLA), established under the Greater London Authority Act 1999. Its principal purpose was to run the London Fire Brigade. The 17 members of LFEPA were appointed annually by the Mayor of London. Eight were nominated from the London Assembly, seven from the London boroughs and two were Mayoral appointees. It replaced the London Fire and Civil Defence Authority, on 3 July 2000. Under the Policing and Crime Act 2017, LFEPA was abolished in April 2018 and replaced with the London Fire Commissioner, a new governance arrangement within the Greater London Authority. Chief fire officer (CFO), formerly often just chief officer, is the highest rank in the fire and rescue services of the United Kingdom. There are currently 50 chief fire officers serving in the United Kingdom in charge of the local authority fire services. There is also a chief fire officer responsible for the Ministry of Defence Fire Services, which includes the Defence Fire and Rescue Service and the RAF Fire Service. Some UK airport fire services also designate their seniors officers as CFOs, though these officers rarely wear the same rank insignia as a local authority chief fire officer.
