Danville Smith
Danville Smith is a South African politician who serves as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament for the African National Congress. Smith is the ANC's spokesperson on local government. On 12 May 2021, Smith voluntarily stepped aside as a member of the provincial parliament, in line with the party's national executive committee resolution, as he has been charged with fraud and corruption. He had allegedly stolen R25,000 by submitting a fraudulent food parcel invoice for a Mandela Day event, when he was a ward councillor in Lamberts Bay Lambert's Bay is a small fishing town in the Western Cape province of South Africa situated north of Cape Town. Lamberts Bay
Lambert's Bay is a small fishing town in the Western Cape province of South Africa situated north of Cape Town. It is part of the Cederberg Municipality. The coast town has been proclaimed 'the Diamond of the West Coast' because of its white beaches, wildlife and lobsters. Although primarily a fishing town, it has become a significant tourist attraction on the West Coast due to its moderate all-year climate. Step-aside Rule
The step-aside rule is an internal policy of the African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party of South Africa, which requires members charged with corruption or other serious crimes voluntarily to "step aside" from participation in party and government activities, or face suspension. Since its adoption in 2017 at the ANC's 54th National Conference, it has led to the suspension of several ANC members, most prominently ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule. In 2022, it was applied to prohibit affected members from standing in internal leadership elections.
