Danny Winchell (born Daniel Weinshal, September 26, 1926 – February 16, 2011) was an American pop singer, magazine publisher, record producer, music promoter and radio show host. Musician As a musician, he released doo-wop recordings on MGM Records and Recorte Records between 1952 and 1959 including a hit with "Carolina in the Morning" in 1952. Winchell released recordings both solo and as a member of Nino and the Ebb Tides. Promoter and producer He was a promotion man at Colpix Records where he became the co-producer of ''“Blue Moon”'' by The Marcels, which was #1 on the Billboard Pop chart for three weeks and number one on the R&B chart. Winchell was directly responsible for Murray the K debuting a pre-release copy of the song on his show on WINS. The K was so impressed with the song, he played it twenty-six times in his four-hour show the first day, making it a hit before it was released. Murray Kaufman (February 14, 1922 – February 21, 1982), professionally known as Murray the K, was an influential New York City rock and roll impresario and disc jockey of the 1950s, '60s and '70s. During the early days of Beatlemania, he frequently referred to himself as the fifth Beatle. Early life Murray Kaufman came from a show business family: his mother, Jean, played piano in vaudeville and wrote music and his aunt was a character actress on the stage and in film. He was a child actor—an extra—in several 1930s Hollywood films. WCRT (1160 AM) is a Class B AM radio station licensed to the community of Donelson, Tennessee, near Nashville. Broadcasting a format of evangelical preaching and talk shows, WCRT is owned by Bott Communications, a Christian broadcaster, which bought the station, formerly WAMB, from longtime Nashville broadcaster Bill Barry (now deceased; he later operated a lower-powered WAMB on the frequency of 1200 kHz). WCRT broadcasts with 50,000 watts during the day and 1,000 watts at night. Because the 1160 kHz frequency receives interference from a Cuban radio station operating in excess of the officially notified power under international treaties, WCRT maintained a special temporary authority since 1990 from the Federal Communications Commission to operate an FM station at night as well.
