Daniel Williams (20 November 1924 – 3 February 2019) was an English football player and manager. Playing career Born in Thrybergh, Williams began his career with Silverwood Colliery and he spent his entire professional playing career with Rotherham United as either a left-half or inside-forward between 1943 and 1965. He made 461 league appearances, scoring 21 goals. Management career He managed Rotherham United (1962-1965), Swindon Town (1965-1969) and (1974-1978), Sheffield Wednesday (1969-1971) and Mansfield Town (1971-1974). Anglo-Italian League Cup
The Anglo-Italian League Cup ( it, Coppa di Lega Italo-Inglese, also known as the Anglo-Italian League Cup Winners' Cup) was a short-lived football competition between teams from England and Italy – an English cup-winning team (League Cup or FA Cup) and the Coppa Italia winner, playing each other over two legs. It was contested between 1969–71 and 1975–76. The competition was set up at the same time as the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1969. History The Football League Cup was changed in 1967 so the winner would be awarded a place in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. But UEFA did not allow third-tier teams to compete in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup at that time. When Queens Park Rangers won the 1967 League Cup final they were in the Third Division, as were Swindon Town when they won the 1969 League Cup. Anglo-Italian Cup
The Anglo-Italian Cup ( it, Coppa Anglo-Italiana, also known as the Anglo-Italian Inter-League Clubs Competition and from 1976 to 1986 as the Alitalia Challenge Cup, Talbot Challenge Cup or Gigi Peronace Memorial) is a defunct European football competition. The competition was played intermittently between 1970 and 1996 between clubs from England and Italy. It was founded by Gigi Peronace, following the two-team Anglo-Italian League Cup in 1969. The initial Anglo-Italian Cup was played as an annual tournament from 1970 to 1973. The first final was abandoned early due to violence, with Swindon Town declared the winners. During its time the tournament had a reputation for violence between fans, and also between players on the pitch. but it returned as a semi-professional tournament from 1976 before it was abolished again in 1986. 1969 Football League Cup Final
The 1969 Football League Cup Final took place on 15 March 1969 at Wembley Stadium. It was the ninth final and the third to be played at Wembley. It was contested between Arsenal and Swindon Town. The Football League Cup winners were given a place in the Fairs Cup, but only if they were in Division One. In Division Three at the time, Swindon did not qualify. Pre-match First Division Arsenal had lost the previous season to Leeds United in the 1968 League Cup Final, and were aiming to do better in their second successive appearance. Swindon Town on the other hand were considered the underdogs, being two divisions below Arsenal in the Third Division, and were appearing in their first League Cup Final and indeed their first match at Wembley. However, with eight Arsenal players suffering from flu (which had led to their match the previous weekend being postponed) and the pitch deteriorating badly due to heavy rain circumstances did not favour Arsenal's short-ball game. Newmarket is a market town and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. Located (14 miles) west of Bury St Edmunds and (14 miles) northeast of Cambridge. It is considered the birthplace and global centre of thoroughbred horse racing.
