Danny Kyle
Danny Kyle (12 December 1939 – 5 July 1998) was a Scottish folk singer-songwriter. He was a passionate supporter of traditional music and a constant campaigner for its revival in Scotland. Kyle was an important figure in the Scottish Folk Revival of the sixties. Biography Kyle was born in Paisley, Scotland, in 1939 and he was brought up in a two-bed tenement in McKerrell Street with his three sisters. Later on in his childhood the family moved to Renfrew Road, where he lived until his death in the summer of 1998. At 15 years old Kyle left school and went to work at Babcock International in Renfrew as an apprentice engineer. In the early 1960s, Kyle started his career as a folk singer and entertainer on the flourishing folk club circuit, during the booming folk revival. Celtic Connections
The Celtic Connections festival started in 1994 in Glasgow, Scotland, and has since been held every January. Featuring over 300 concerts, ceilidhs, talks, free events, late night sessions and workshops, the festival focuses on the roots of traditional Scottish music and also features international folk, roots and world music artists. The festival is produced and promoted by Glasgow Life. Donald Shaw, a founding member of Capercaillie, was appointed Celtic Connections Artistic Director in 2006. At the core of the festival is the Education Programme, which sees thousands of school children attend free morning concerts experiencing live music ranging from Burns to spiritual and blues. Billy Connolly
Sir William Connolly (born 24 November 1942) is a Scottish actor, retired comedian, artist, writer, musician, and presenter. He is sometimes known, especially in his homeland, by the Scots nickname the Big Yin ("the Big One"). Known for his idiosyncratic and often improvised observational comedy, frequently including strong language, Connolly has topped many UK polls as the greatest stand-up comedian of all time. In 2022 he received the BAFTA Fellowship for lifetime achievement from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Malky McCormick
Malky McCormick (1943 – 15 April 2019) was a Scottish cartoonist, comics artist, postcard artist, caricaturist and musician. Biography After leaving the commercial art world in 1965, he illustrated comics and magazines for D.C. Thomson in Dundee then became a graphic artist and designer with Scottish Television for three years. In 1975, along with friend and fellow banjo player Billy Connolly, he devised and wrote the successful cartoon strip, The Big Yin for the '' Sunday Mail''.
