''Dankó Pista'' is a 1940 Hungarian drama film directed by László Kalmár and starring Pál Jávor, Erzsi Simor and Margit Lukács. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The film enjoyed particular success on its release in Norway.Frey p.284 The film's sets were designed by the art director Márton Vincze. László Kalmár (director)
László Kalmár (1900–1980) was a Hungarian screenwriter and film director. Cunningham p.37 He began his career in the Horthy era, learning his craft as an assistant director before directing his first film in 1939. His melodrama ''Flames'' was screened at the 1941 Venice Film Festival. He was able to continue his career at the end of the Second World War, unlike many other Hungarian filmmakers, and transitioned to working under the new Hungarian People's Republic, Communist regime. Kálmán Rózsahegyi
Kálmán Rózsahegyi (6 October 1873, in Pest – 27 August 1961) was a Jewish Hungarian actor and teacher. He descended from a family of theatre actors; his father, Ödön Rózsahegyi performed in the countryside. Kálmán Rózsahegyi also began his career performing in the countryside, but in 1898 he was hired by the Hungarian National Theatre. Between 1900 and 1935 he was a member of the National Theatre, from 1923 as a permanent member. With his wife, Angéla Hevesi, he founded his own private drama school, which was the place of learning for many famous actors. György Kürthy (24 February 1882 – 27 December 1972) was a Hungarian actor, scenographer, writer and director of the theatre. Biography He maturated in Budapest, then moved to Munich where he learnt architecture. His first theatrical performance was in 1905 at Thália Theatre. He was a member of the National Theatre between 1906 and 1935. He worked as a chief director in Kolozsvár (today Cluj-Napoca, Romania) in the theatre year 1908-1909. Between 1916 and 1923 he taught at Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest. During the next year he played at National Theatre of Pécs. Then he moved back to the capital, and was a professor at the Hungarian University of Arts and Design from 1927 to 1930. In the following year he was the director of National Theatre of Szeged. He came back to the stage in 1953 when he played two years at Kisfaludy Károly Theatre and one year at József Attila Theatre.
