Mixed Curling
This is a glossary of terms in curling. #s During a game, sweepers might call out numbers. These numbers indicate how far the sweepers think the rock in play will travel. This system is relatively new to the game and is often attributed to the Randy Ferbey rink since they were the first major team to use the system, but it is not known whose idea it originally was. 1 to 3 indicates a rock in the free guard zone, 4 to 6 the rings in front of the tee line, 7 being on the button, and 8 to 10 the rings behind the tee line. Sometimes, 11 is used to indicate a stone thrown so that it passes through the house and out of play. Tommy Stjerne
Tommy Stjerne (born 20 July 1957 in Copenhagen) is a Danish curler. Stjerne curls out of Hvidovre Curling Club outside Copenhagen. He has represented Denmark in the 1977, 1981, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990, and 1998 World Curling Championships. His best finish was a bronze in 1990. He skipped his team to win the 2010 Danish Curling Championship. His son (Rasmus Stjerne) skipped the Danish team to a silver medal in the 2010 European Curling Championships. He will represent Denmark in the 2011 Ford World Men's Curling Championship in Regina, Saskatchewan. Ulrik Schmidt
Ulrik Schmidt (born 19 August 1962) is a Denmark, Danish curling, curler. He currently skips the Danish national team, while he throws third stones. Schmidt's first international appearance was at the 1984 World Junior Curling Championships, where he skipped the Danish team to a 9th-place finish. He was then picked up by Sören Bang to play lead at the 1987 European Curling Championships, placing fourth. He was the team's alternate at the 1991 Euros, skipped by Gert Larsen, placing 6th. Schmidt skipped his own team beginning in 1996. That season, he finished 5th at the European Championships and 6th at the 1997 Ford World Men's Curling Championship. Later that year, he won a silver medal at the 1997 European Championships, where he lost to Germany (skipped by Andy Kapp) in the final. Schmidt didn't return to international competition until the 1999 Ford World Men's Curling Championship, where he placed 6th. Malene Krause
Malene Krause (born 18 June 1963 in Frederiksberg) is a Danish curler and curling coach. She is a four time Olympian, competing in the curling exhibition events in 1988 and 1992 and then the full curling events in 2002 and 2006. Her best result at the Olympics was when her team lost the bronze medal match to Canada in 1992 to finish fourth.
