Varvarin
Varvarin ( sr-cyr, Варварин, ) is a town and municipality located in the Rasina District of central Serbia. Population of the town is 2,133, and population of the municipality is 17,772. History The town is notable as the site of an 1810 battle during the Russo-Turkish War (1806-1812) between the Ottoman Empire and a combined Russian and Serbian army. A statue to the Russian commander Joseph Cornelius O'Rourke and his men was erected in 1910 on the centenary of their victory in the battle, which freed the city from Turkish domination. From 1929 to 1941, Varvarin was part of the Morava Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. NATO bombing During the Kosovo war and the break-up of Yugoslavia in the late 20th century, the area became engulfed in conflict although distant from the border. The 2013–14 Serbian SuperLiga (known as the Jelen SuperLiga for sponsorship reasons) was the eighth season of the Serbian SuperLiga since its establishment. The title was won by Red Star Belgrade. Teams A total of 16 teams will contest the league, including 13 sides from the 2012–13 season and two promoted from the 2012–13 Serbian First League, which are the champions FK Napredak Kruševac and second placed FK Čukarički. The 2012–13 Serbian Cup season is the seventh season of the Serbian national football tournament. The competition started on 5 September 2012 and concluded with the Final on 8 May 2013. The winner of the competition will qualify for the 2013–14 UEFA Europa League. Preliminary round A preliminary round was held in order to reduce the number of teams competing in the next round to 32. It consisted of 7 single-legged ties, with penalty shoot-out as decider, if the score was tied after 90 minutes. The 2011–12 Serbian Cup season was the sixth season of the Serbian national football tournament. The competition started on 31 August 2011 and concluded with the Final on May 16, 2012. The winner of the competition qualified for the second qualifying round of the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League. Serbian Cup
The Serbian Cup ( Serbian: Куп Србије, Kup Srbije) is the national football cup of Serbia. The winner of the competition gets a spot in the UEFA Europa League qualifying round. From 2006 to 2010, the competition was known as the Lav Cup for sponsorship reasons. History Serbia's cup tournament is the legal successor to the Serbia and Montenegro Cup and in turn of the Yugoslav Cup. This cup tournament lasted for four seasons up until the dissolution of the state union of Serbia and Montenegro in 2006.
