Danielle Jones (tennis)
Danielle Jones (born 4 March 1969) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Biography Jones comes from Melbourne and as a junior was runner-up in the girls' doubles at the 1987 Australian Open. She competed on the professional tour in the 1990s. At the 1991 Australian Open she appeared in the singles main draw as a wildcard, where she lost in the first round to Larisa Savchenko-Neiland. Her best singles performance on the WTA Tour was a quarterfinal appearance at the Taipei Women's Championship in 1993, beating Cammy MacGregor and Rachel McQuillan en route. She had a win over then-world No. 23, Amy Frazier, at Eastbourne in 1994. In doubles, she reached as high as 91 in the world in 1997 and was a semifinalist at the Auckland Open, partnering Esmé de Villiers. 1991 Australian Open – Women's Singles
Monica Seles defeated Jana Novotná in the final, 5–7, 6–3, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1991 Australian Open. She became the first woman in the Open Era to win the Australian Open after saving a match point, doing so in the semifinals against Mary Joe Fernández. Taipei Women's Championship
The Taipei Women's Championships is a defunct WTA Tour-affiliated women's tennis tournament played from 1986 to 1989 and from 1992 to 1994. It was held in Taipei, Taiwan and played on indoor carpet courts from 1986 to 1988, and on outdoor hard courts in 1989 and from 1992 to 1994. The 1980s tours were sponsored partly by Virginia Slims, and the 1990s events were sponsored by Kraft Foods and Procter & Gamble, the latter of which were named P&G Taiwan Women's Open or Taiwan Open in short. Anne Minter and Shi-Ting Wang were the most successful players at the tournament, each winning the singles competition twice. History The inaugural 1986 tournament was called the Chung Cheng Centennial Cup International Women's Tennis Championships and ran from October 6–12, 1986 to commemorate the centennial anniversary of Chiang Kai-shek's birth. Rheda-Wiedenbrück (; Westphalian: ''Raie-Wienbrügge'') is a city in the district of Gütersloh, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Geography The twin community lies within the valley of the river Ems in the Westphalian Lowland south of the Teutoburg Forest, which is about 30 km away. Nannie de Villiers (born Esmé de Villiers, 5 January 1976) is a former professional tennis player who represented South Africa. She was born in neighbouring Namibia but moved at a young age. De Villiers made her début in 1993, at the small ITF Johannesburg tournament. She also played her next event in her native country, in Pretoria, winning the doubles event. Eastbourne International
The Eastbourne International is a tennis tournament on the WTA Tour and the ATP Tour held at the Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club, Eastbourne, United Kingdom. Held since 1974, it is classified as a WTA 500 series on the WTA Tour and an ATP Tour 250 series on the ATP Tour. The tournament is played on outdoor grass courts, and is generally considered a "warm-up" for the Wimbledon Championships, a major tournament, which begins the following week. It was originally just part of the WTA Tour, but from 2009 it was combined as an ATP Tour event. It replaced the Nottingham Open grass court tournament from 2009–2014.
