Daniel Rossen
Daniel Raphael Rossen (born August 5, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the guitarist and co-lead vocalist of the indie rock band Grizzly Bear, with whom he has recorded four studio albums. Rossen is also a member of Department of Eagles, and released a solo EP, '' Silent Hour/Golden Mile'', in 2012. His debut solo studio album, '' You Belong There'', was released in 2022. Biography Originally from Los Angeles, Rossen moved to attend New York University. Rossen is the grandchild of filmmaker Robert Rossen, who directed ''The Hustler'' and ''All the King's Men''. Robert Rossen's parents were Russian-Jewish immigrants. As a student at the university, Rossen formed Department of Eagles with roommate Fred Nicolaus in 2001. The duo then released two 7" singles and an album, '' The Whitey on the Moon UK'', on Isota Records. In Ear Park
''In Ear Park'' is the second album by Department of Eagles. It was released by 4AD on October 7, 2008. The inspiration for the album is noted to come from Daniel Rossen's childhood experiences, most notably memories of those related to his father. The album is dedicated to his father, who died in 2007. In an interview for a 4AD DUMBO Session, Rossen reflected on the inspiration for the title of the album, quoting, "It was a nickname for a park that I used to go to with my dad, when I was a kid, and there was an interactive statue that looked like a giant ear...so we called it ''In Ear Park''". Background and recording The album was completed over several years and involved the use of unusual settings and techniques for demoing and recording. ''The Cold Nose'' is the debut album by Department of Eagles. It has been reissued twice. It was originally released in the US as The Whitey On The Moon UK LP on Isota Records on October 21, 2003, and reissued in the UK as The Cold Nose on Melodic Records on January 8, 2008. The American Dust October 7, 2008 US reissue contains four bonus tracks. The album is sample-heavy and multilayered. The second track, "Sailing By Night," contains a sample of the song "Meetings Along The Edge" from the Philip Glass and Ravi Shankar project '' Passages'', as well as a sample from the Yellow Magic Orchestra track, Rydeen. The third track "Noam Chomsky Spring Break 2002" samples the Regina Spektor song "Prisoners". It also samples Astor Piazzolla's composition "Oblivion" in the opening and closing sequences. ''Painted Ruins'' is the fifth studio album by American rock band Grizzly Bear, released on August 18, 2017, by RCA Records. Along with the announcement of the album, the band announced a fall European and North American tour. Recording Grizzly Bear spent two years writing and recording for the album. Band member Chris Taylor produced ''Painted Ruins'', with recording sessions occurring primarily at Allaire Studios in New York, but also at various locations around Los Angeles, including Taylor's own Terrible Studios. The album is named after Veckatimest Island, a small island in Dukes County, Massachusetts. It was announced one day in advance of its release, and was intentionally released exactly at the autumnal equinox on September 22, 2020. The twelve-inch single (often written as 12-inch or 12″) is a type of vinyl ( polyvinyl chloride or PVC) gramophone record that has wider groove spacing and shorter playing time with a 'single' or a few related sound tracks on each surface, compared to LPs (long play) which have several songs on each side.
