Daniel Rae Costello
Daniel Rae Costello (17 June 1961 – 22 July 2019) was a Fijian-born musician based in Samoa. He died on 22 July 2019 of cancer. Personal life Born in Suva, Fiji, Costello, along with his brother, attended high school in Whangārei, New Zealand. His mother, Jessie Rae was of Samoan, Rotuman and Scottish descent whereas his father, Dan Costello, was Irish; both were born in Fiji. He was brought up in Tavua. His father owned a cattle ranch. He moved with his family to Lautoka when he was 5 and lived there for the rest of his life. He and his younger brother Vince started a band called ''The Fleet Swingers'' when he was in Grade 7; his brother was the lead singer. He completed his last year of school in Suva, Fiji, at Marist Brothers High School, where he won the school's talent contest for that year. Suva
Suva () is the capital and largest city of Fiji. It is the home of the country's largest metropolitan area and serves as its major port. The city is located on the southeast coast of the island of Viti Levu, in Rewa Province, Central Division. In 1877, the capital of Fiji was moved to Suva from Levuka, the main European colonial settlement at the time, due to its restrictive geography and environs. Pacific Music Awards
The Pacific Music Awards are an annual New Zealand music award ceremony since 2005 that honours excellence in Pacific music in New Zealand. The awards honour musicians who primarily work in the Pacific Island style of music from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, Tokelau or Tuvalu, and also in urban and gospel genre categories. Organisation The Pacific Music Awards are run by the Pacific Music Awards Committee, which was founded in 2004 with the goal of establishing and running an annual awards for the Pacific music community in New Zealand. The inaugural event was part of the Pasifika Festival, and after that has been separate. In 2008 a charitable trust was registered called the Pacific Music Awards Trust.
