Daniel Lleufer Thomas
Sir Daniel Lleufer Thomas (29 August 1863 – 8 August 1940) was a Welsh magistrate, social reformer, and writer. Thomas was born on 29 August 1863 at Llethr Enoch, Cwm-du, Talley, the third child of William and Esther Thomas, at Llethr Enoch, Cwm-du, in the parish of Llandeilo-fawr. In 1890 he was nominated to be Liberal candidate for the vacancy in East Carmarthenshire following the death of David Pugh but he withdrew before the selection conference. In 1891 he began contributing to the ''Dictionary of National Biography''. He was knighted in February 1931. Talley ( cy, Talyllychau, historically cy, Tal y Llychau, label=none) is a community and small village in Carmarthenshire, Wales.The population taken at the 2011 census was 494. East Carmarthenshire (UK Parliament Constituency)
East Carmarthenshire was a county constituency in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the first past the post voting system. It was created for the 1885 general election, when the old two-member Carmarthenshire constituency was divided into two new single-member seats: East Carmarthenshire and West Carmarthenshire, both of which were in turn abolished for the 1918 general election. David Pugh (British Politician)
David Pugh (1806 – 12 July 1890) was a Welsh landowner and Liberal Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1857 until 1868 and again from 1885 until his death in 1890. Early life and career Pugh was born at Green Hill, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire (which was later renamed Manoravon), the eldest son of Colonel David Heron Pugh, who was High Sheriff of Carmarthenshire in 1819, and his wife Elizabeth Beynon, daughter of William Beynon of Trewern, Llanddewi Velfrey, Pembrokeshire. His brother, John William Pugh, was Vicar of Llandeilo for fifteen years. Pugh was educated at Rugby School and Balliol College, Oxford, graduating in 1828. In 1837 he was called to the Bar at Inner Temple and for some years he practiced on the Northern Circuit. Margaret Lindsay Williams
Margaret Lindsay Williams, (18 June 1888 – 4 June 1960) was a Welsh artist who was commissioned to paint portraits of the British royal family, European royalty and American presidents. She was best known as a portrait painter and painted portraits of Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, Princess Margaret and at least five portraits of Queen Elizabeth II. She also painted President Warren Harding, Henry Ford and Field Marshal Slim. Although Williams gained considerable recognition and was famous in her lifetime, her work has been neglected since. Early life Williams was born in Cardiff, the eldest of the two daughters of Samuel A. Williams, a shipbroker of Barry Docks and Martha Margaret Lindsay, who was of Scottish descent. It was first published in 1959, and is now maintained as a free online resource. Origins Robert Thomas Jenkins was assistant editor, then joint editor, of ' and its English-language counterpart, the ''Dictionary of Welsh Biography'', writing over 600 entries. His joint editor was John Edward Lloyd, but the ''Dictionary'' was not published until 1959, twelve years after his death.
