Daniel Joseph Martinez (born 1957) is a Los Angeles-based contemporary artist. Early life Martinez grew up in Lennox, California, a working-class area of Los Angeles County, California, Los Angeles County near Los Angeles International Airport. After high school, he attended the California Institute of the Arts, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts, BFA in 1979. During the 1980s, he worked as a freelance photographer, and spent time working with Harry Gamboa Jr. and Asco (art collective), ASCO. Kadist is an interdisciplinary contemporary arts organization with an international contemporary art collection. In addition to being a collecting body, Kadist hosts artists residencies and produces exhibitions, publications, and public events. Pollock-Krasner Foundation
The Pollock-Krasner Foundation was established in 1985 for the purpose of providing financial assistance to individual working artists of established ability. It was established at the bequest of Lee Krasner, who was an American abstract expressionist painter and the widow of fellow painter Jackson Pollock. Krasner left approximately $23 million in cash, securities, and art to the foundation. Activities The foundation provides grants to artists internationally based on "recognizable artistic merit and demonstrable financial need". The foundation also gives out Lee Krasner Awards.
