Daniel Jones (composer)
Daniel Jenkyn Jones (7 December 1912 – 23 April 1993) was a Welsh composer of classical music, who worked in Britain. He used both serial and tonal techniques. He is best known for his quartets and thirteen symphonies (some composed in his own system of 'Complex Metres') and for his song settings for Dylan Thomas's play, ''Under Milk Wood''. Biography Jones was born in Pembroke in south Wales. Daniel Jones (chancellor)
Daniel Wayne Jones (born March 19, 1949) served as the 16th chancellor of the University of Mississippi. He was appointed June 15, 2009, after Robert Khayat announced his retirement from the post on January 6, 2009. Jones was formerly the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, the Dean of the School of Medicine and the Herbert G. Langford Professor of Medicine - all three at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He was the national president of the American Heart Association for the 2007-2008 year. Education Born in Morton, Mississippi, Jones earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Mississippi College in 1971 and his M.D. from University of Mississippi Medical Center. Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Burglary
The Hatton Garden safe deposit burglary occurred in April 2015, when an underground safe deposit facility in Hatton Garden, London, owned by Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Ltd., was burgled. According to official sources, the total stolen had an estimated value of up to £14 million (equivalent to £ million in ), of which only £4.3 million (equivalent to £ million in ) has been recovered. The heist was planned and carried out by six elderly men who were experienced thieves, all of whom were arrested, pleaded guilty and received prison sentences in March 2016. Four other men were also tried on suspicion of involvement; three were found guilty and sent to prison, while the fourth was cleared. Daniel Webster Jones (August 26, 1830 – April 20, 1915) was an American and Mormon pioneer. He was the leader of the group that colonized what eventually became Mesa, Arizona, made the first translation of selections of The Book of Mormon into Spanish, led the first Mormon missionary expedition into Mexico, dealt frequently with the American Indians, and was the leader of the group that heroically wintered at Devil's Gate during the rescue of the stranded handcart companies in 1856. Daniel Webster Jones (December 15, 1839December 25, 1918) was the 19th Governor of the U.S. state of Arkansas. Biography Jones was born in Bowie County, Texas to Isaac N. Jones, a doctor and member of the Congress of the Republic of Texas, and Elizabeth W. Littlejohn. When Jones was a year old, his family moved to Washington, Arkansas ( Hempstead County where they owned a large plantation in nearby Lafayette County; Jones attended Washington Academy there and later studied law. Daniel Jones (June 30, 1830 - December 25, 1891) was a Methodist Episcopal minister (M.E.) in Oregon and other regions of the United States. He was the first African American to attend Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. He was a leader in the M.E. church and was presiding elder of the Lexington, Kentucky, district. Early life Daniel Jones was born June 30, 1830, in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Henry and Catharine Jones. Henry Jones was a slave on the Eastern Shore of Maryland until the age of 25 when he escaped into Pennsylvania. The couple had five children. Daniel Jones (12 September 1881 – 4 December 1967) was a London-born British phonetician who studied under Paul Passy, professor of phonetics at the École des Hautes Études at the Sorbonne (University of Paris). He was head of the Department of Phonetics at University College, London. Biography In 1900, Jones studied briefly at William Tilly's Marburg Language Institute in Germany, where he was first introduced to phonetics. In 1903, he received his BA degree in mathematics at Cambridge, converted by payment to MA in 1907. From 1905 to 1906, he studied in Paris under Paul Passy, who was one of the founders of the International Phonetic Association, and in 1911, he married Passy's niece Cyrille Motte.
