Daniel Damásio Ascensão Filipe
Daniel Damásio Ascensão Filipe (December 11, 1925 in Boa Vista Island, Cape Verde - April 6, 1964) was a Cape Verdean poet and journalist. He was born in the island of Boa Vista in 1926. He went to Portugal when he was a child and later gratuded at the Curso Geral dos Liceus. He studied at lyceums in Portugal and later as a co-director in the work ''Notícias do Bloqueio'' (''Bloc News''), collaborated with the review and realized by the Emissora National on the literary program ''Távola Redonda'' (''Voice of the Emperor'') and the journal ''Diário Ilustrado'' (1956-). He was one of the founders of '' Claridade'' journal which was founded in 1936 alongside Manuel Lopes, Baltasar Lopes da Silva, Manuel Ferreira, Francisco José Tenreiro, António Aurélio Gonçalves and Jorge Barbosa. Boa Vista Island
Boa Vista (Portuguese language, Portuguese for "good view"), also written as Boavista, is a desert-like island that belongs to the Cape Verde Islands. At , it is the third largest island of the Cape Verde archipelago. The island of Boa Vista is closer to the African continent than all the other islands in Cape Verde, being the easternmost island of all. The distance between Boa Vista and Senegal is only 450 km. Jorge Barbosa (writer)
Jorge Vera-Cruz Barbosa (25 May 1902 – 6 January 1971) was a Cape Verdean poet and writer. He collaborated in various reviews and Portuguese and Cape Verdean journals. The publication of his poetry anthology ''Arquipélago'' (''Archipelago'') in 1935 marked the beginning of Cape Verdean poetry. He was, along with Baltazar Lopes da Silva and Manuel Lopes, one of the three founders of the literary journal '' Claridade'' ("Clarity") in 1936, which marked the beginning of modern Cape Verdean literature. Afonso Dias
Afonso Dias is a Portuguese singer, musician, poet and actor. He was deputy of the Constitution Assembly of 1975/76 under the Popular Democratic Union (Portugal) (later, he did not exercise in other political offices). In music, he was one of the founders of Grupo de Acção Cultural (GAC, the Cultural Group Action). He was elected in numerous presentation inside and outside Portugal, though he recorded different discs in the studio. António Aurélio Gonçalves
António Aurélio Gonçalves, better known as Nhô Roque (25 September 1901 – 30 September 1984), was a Cape Verdean writer, critic, historian and professor. Life Gonçalves was born in the city of Mindelo, capital of the island of São Vicente. He was the son of Roque da Silva Gonçalves. He was absent from the island for 22 years after he headed to the imperial capital of Lisbon in 1917 after his high-school studies at the seminary on the island of São Nicolau. He attended the University of Lisbon where he studied medicine for two years. Later, he studied Fine Arts, history and philosophy. In 1938, he published a dissertation on irony in the work by Eça de Queiroz. He returned to his native island in early 1939.
