Daniel Anyiam
Daniel Amobi Amadi Anyiam (November 26, 1926 – July 6, 1977) was a Nigerian football player and coach who was the national football coach of the country from 1954-1956 and again from 1964-1965. Prior to training as a coach, he was a player and was the first captain of the national team in 1949. He was also the first coach of the Enugu Rangers and was selector for the national team after the Nigerian Civil War. A stadium in Owerri is named after him. He went to C.M.S. Central School, Nkwerre, Orlu, Etinan Institute, and Government Teacher's College, Calabar. Rangers International Football Club, commonly known as Enugu Rangers, is a Nigerian professional association football team. They are based in Enugu and play their home games at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. Dan Anyiam Stadium
Dan Anyiam Stadium is a Nigerian multi-purpose stadium located in Owerri, Imo State. History Located in the centre of Owerri, Imo State's capital, the capital of Imo State, the stadium is named after Daniel Anyiam, vice-captain of the first Nigeria national football team. In 2019, the Imo State governor Emeka Ihedioha during his "Rebuild Imo Project" awarded contracts for the renovation and rehabilitation of the Dan Anyiam Stadium alongside some other projects. The ''West African Pilot'' was a newspaper launched in Nigeria by Nnamdi Azikiwe ("Zik") in 1937, dedicated to fighting for independence from British colonial rule. It is most known for introducing popular journalism within Nigeria. The main focus of the newspaper was to promote Nigerian independence from colonial rule. Football was a topic often used within the media to promote these various arguments of independence. With humanistic language and powerful ideas, the ''West African Pilot'' successfully promoted the humanity of African workers in this colonized world.
