Daniel 'Dani' Ferreira Rodrigues (born 3 March 1980) is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as a winger. Club career Portugal Born in São João da Madeira, Rodrigues started his career for C.D. Feirense, playing one full season in the Segunda Liga. In November 1998 he went on loan to AFC Bournemouth in England, being spotted by scouts from nearby Premier League club Southampton who recommended him to manager Glenn Hoddle. England In an act of "un-neighbourly piracy", Southampton nipped in and signed Rodrigues from Feirense for £200,000. He played two games as a substitute at the end of the 1999–2000 campaign, against Leicester City and Wimbledon. The 1999–2000 FA Premier League (known as the FA Carling Premiership for sponsorship reasons) was the eighth season of the FA Premier League, and Manchester United secured their sixth Premiership title. In association football, a substitute is a player who is brought on to the pitch during a match in exchange for an existing player. Substitutions are generally made to replace a player who has become tired or injured, or who is performing poorly, or for tactical reasons (such as bringing a striker on in place of a defender). A player who has been substituted during a match takes no further part in the game, in games played under the standard International Football Association Board Laws of the Game. Substitutions were officially added to the Laws of the Game in 1958.
