Dangerous Love (1920 Film)
''Dangerous Love'' is a 1920 American silent Western film based on the 1917 novel ''Ben Warman'' by Charles E. Winter, who would later become a congressman for Wyoming. The film was directed by Charles Bartlett, and stars Pete Morrison, Carol Holloway, Ruth King, Jack Richardson, and Spottiswoode Aitken. The movie was shot at the Lakeside Studios in Denver, Colorado. The feature had previously been announced under several titles before its release, including ''The Vanishing Strain'', ''Ben Warman'', ''A Good Bad Man'', and ''Broken Promises''. Synopsis Ben Warman, a likable boy with a proclivity for gambling and fighting, alienates the owner of a saloon in a Western mining town by helping a girl remove her drunken father from the premises. In so doing he makes a friend of the Woman, a young school teacher who makes Ben promise to give up his vices. Harry von Meter (March 20, 1871 – June 2, 1956; sometimes credited Harry van Meter) was an American silent film actor. He starred in about 200 films in the period from 1912 through 1929. He retired from acting just as sound films were beginning. Born in Malta Bend, Missouri, von Meter was signed by the Thanhouser Company based in New Rochelle, New York in 1912, moving to American Film Studios a year or two later. He appeared in the 1923 film ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame'' as Monsignor Neufchatel. He died in Sawtelle, Los Angeles, California in 1956, at age 85. Frank Spottiswoode Aitken (16 April 1868 – 26 February 1933) was a Scottish-American actor of the silent era. He played Dr. Cameron in D. W. Griffith's epic drama ''The Birth of a Nation''. Early years Aitken was born 16 April 1868 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Acting In his book, ''The King of the Movies: Film Pioneer Siegmund Lubin'', Joseph P. Eckhardt wrote that Aitken was "trained as a Shakespearean actor, with many years of experience under his belt." His film debut came in 1911. He eventually appeared in 81 feature films between 1914 and 1927. Businessman Aitken was one of the first actors to settle in Los Angeles when the film industry was still at its strongest in New York. He invested most of his earnings in real estate, buying up orange groves around what would become Hollywood.
