Pierre Dangeard
Pierre Jean-Louis Dangeard (18 February 1895 in Poitiers, France – 23 August 1970 in Pléneuf-Val-André, France) was a French botanist. He was the son of botanist and mycologist Pierre Augustin Dangeard and brother of geologist and oceanographer, Louis Dangeard. Biography Pierre Dangeard was born on 18 February 1895 in Poitiers, France. Four years earlier his father had relocated from Caen to take up a botany professorship at the ''Académie des Sciences'', the scientific faculty of the University of Poitiers, and a year after his move, had married the 20-year-old Henriette Louise Labrosse. Dangeard was the second of four siblings. His elder brother Henri died in 1899 at the age of six. Pierre thus became the eldest of the children and followed in his father's footsteps to become a botanist. Green Algae
The green algae (singular: green alga) are a group consisting of the Prasinodermophyta and its unnamed sister which contains the Chlorophyta and Charophyta/Streptophyta. The land plants (Embryophytes) have emerged deep in the Charophyte alga as sister of the Zygnematophyceae. Since the realization that the Embryophytes emerged within the green algae, some authors are starting to properly include them. The completed clade that includes both green algae and embryophytes is monophyletic and is referred to as the clade Viridiplantae and as the kingdom Plantae. The green algae include unicellular and colonial flagellates, most with two flagella per cell, as well as various colonial, coccoid and filamentous forms, and macroscopic, multicellular seaweeds. Circumscription (taxonomy)
In biological taxonomy, circumscription is the content of a taxon, that is, the delimitation of which subordinate taxa are parts of that taxon. If we determine that species X, Y, and Z belong in Genus A, and species T, U, V, and W belong in Genus B, those are our circumscriptions of those two genera. Another systematist might determine that T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z all belong in genus A. Agreement on circumscriptions is not governed by the Codes of Zoological or Botanical Nomenclature, and must be reached by scientific consensus. A goal of biological taxonomy is to achieve a stable circumscription for every taxon.
