"Dandy in the Underworld" is a song by English rock band T. Rex, which was released by EMI in 1977 as the third single from their twelfth and final studio album '' Dandy in the Underworld''. The song was written and produced by Marc Bolan. Writing "Dandy in the Underworld" was written in early November 1976 as the recording sessions for the ''Dandy in the Underworld'' album were drawing to a close. Bolan described the song as "a Bolonic revision of Orpheus descending". He told '' Record Mirror'' in 1977, "'Dandy in the Underworld' is a retelling of the old story where Orpheus goes into the underworld and then returns to the light. That's been true of my life sometimes." Recording The song was recorded at AIR Studios in November 1976. ''Dandy in the Underworld'' is the twelfth and final studio album by English rock band T. Rex. It was released on 11 March 1977 by record label EMI. It reached No. 26 in the UK charts, the band's highest-charting album since 1974's ''Zinc Alloy''. The leading single "I Love to Boogie" had been a hit single in the UK the previous year, peaking at number 13 in the singles chart. ''Dandy in the Underworld'' was regarded by critics as a comeback for the band. It was praised for the strength of the songwriting and Bolan's vocal performances. However, it would prove to be the band's final album, as Marc Bolan died in a car crash in September 1977 at age 29. Charles Shaar Murray (born Charles Maximillian Murray; 27 June 1951) is an English music journalist and broadcaster. He has worked on the '' New Musical Express'' and many other magazines and newspapers, and has been interviewed for a number of television documentaries and reports on music. Biography Murray grew up in Reading, Berkshire, England, where he attended Reading Grammar School and learnt to play the harmonica and guitar. ''Marc'' is a British television series presented by T. Rex's lead singer Marc Bolan. It was produced in Manchester by Granada Television for the ITV network. A second series was planned but Bolan died before it could be produced. Produced by Muriel Young and directed by Nicholas Ferguson, it ran for six weekly episodes in the autumn of 1977, before its host died in a car crash on 16 September that year. A pop music show with a very limited budget and markedly low production values, it gave Bolan a chance to showcase punk bands such as Generation X, the Jam, Radio Stars and Eddie and the Hot Rods. T. Rex lip synced at least three songs each week, with Bolan's guitar never appearing to be plugged in, a mixture of new versions of their old hits, and fresh tracks, while the guests were slotted in between. ''Get It Together'' is a British children's television series, produced by Granada Television for the UK ITV network between 6 April 1977 and 22 December 1981. The series followed an almost identical format to the earlier ''Lift Off with Ayshea'', also created by series producer Muriel Young. The series was presented by former 'straight man' to Basil Brush, Roy North, initially with Linda Fletcher and then later with Megg Nicol who had made her debut presenting with David Jensen in Yorkshire TV's Pop Quest. Whereas ''Lift Off'' had been originally designed to showcase viewer's pop music requests by guest artists, ''Get It Together'' relied more on the presenters and resident band and singers.
