"Dandy Life" is a song by the American rock band Collective Soul. It is the sixth track from their fourth studio album '' Dosage''. Background "Dandy Life" was written by lead guitarist Ross Childress, who provided lead vocals on the track. It was the first of two commercially released songs by Collective Soul that do not feature vocals from lead singer Ed Roland; the latter one is "I Don't Need Anymore Friends" from the album '' Afterwords'' (2007), which was written and sung by Childress' successor, lead guitarist Joel Kosche. Collective Soul
Collective Soul is an American rock band originally from Stockbridge, Georgia. Now based in Atlanta, the group consists of lead vocalist Ed Roland, rhythm guitarist Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, drummer Johnny Rabb, and lead guitarist Jesse Triplett. Formed in 1992, the original lineup consisted of the Roland brothers, Turpin, guitarist Ross Childress, and drummer Shane Evans. Collective Soul released their ''Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid'' album on the independent label Rising Storm Records in 1993. The band went from obscurity to popularity that year after the album's lead single " Shine" received regional radio play. The album was then re-released in 1994 by the major label Atlantic Records; thus, "Shine" became a national hit as it peaked at No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock and No. 4 on the Mainstream Top 40 charts. Starfish and Coffee were an American pop/rock band from Atlanta, Georgia. Their name comes from a song written by Prince and Susannah Melvoin on Prince's 1987 double album ''Sign o' the Times''. History Ross Childress was the original lead guitarist for the rock band Collective Soul from 1994 to 2001. Following his departure from Collective Soul, Childress collaborated with Econoline Crush frontman Trevor Hurst in a band simply titled Hurst. Joel Sefton Kosche ( ; born September 20, 1969) is an American musician. He is best known for his thirteen-year tenure as the lead guitarist of the rock band Collective Soul. He is also a solo artist, and tours with his backing band, Joel Kosche Band. His debut solo album, ''Fight Years'', was released in 2010. Life and career Kosche self-taught himself to play guitar at age 13, and later trained in classical guitar. Active in Atlanta's music scene, he co-founded the band Rhapsody, and in 1994, along with other members of Rhapsody, he co-founded the progressive rock band Jovian Storm which achieved local success with the album ''Magic Show''. Ed Roland
Edgar Eugene Roland, Jr. (born August 3, 1963) is an American musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. He is best known as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the rock band Collective Soul. He is also active with his side project, Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project. Career One of the first records that influenced Roland to explore rock music was Elton John's Greatest Hits, which he purchased as a child. After finishing high school, Roland studied songwriting and guitar at Berklee College of Music in Boston for one year. He was the lead engineer and producer at Real 2 Reel Studios in Stockbridge, Georgia for eight years. In 1985, he joined a band called Ed-E and another during the late 1980s and early 1990s called Marching Two-Step. ''Dosage'' is the fourth studio album by the American alternative rock rock band Collective Soul. The album was released on Atlantic Records in February 1999 and peaked at number 21 on the '' Billboard'' albums chart. The album's title was derived from a catchphrase they used to describe burnout after their previous tour. The first single from the album, "Heavy", gave the band another number-one hit on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and spent a then record-breaking 15 weeks on the top spot. "Heavy" was also featured in the opening of the video game ''NHL 2001'' and in the 2014 Golden Corral ad. The second single released, "Run", also gained broad mainstream radioplay and was featured on the soundtrack for the 1999 film '' Varsity Blues''.
