Leeds Thomas Danby
Leeds Thomas Danby (formerly Thomas Danby College) was a further education college in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England offering courses for 16- to 18-year-olds and adults. The college was named after the first Mayor of Leeds, Captain Thomas Danby of Farnley. On 1 April 2009, Leeds Thomas Danby merged with Park Lane College and the Leeds College of Technology to form the new Leeds City College. The Leeds Thomas Danby site, on Roundhay Road in Leeds, was known as the Thomas Danby Campus of the new college. The site was closed in September 2013 due to serious concerns regarding asbestos. Leeds City College's new Printworks Campus, in Hunslet Road, opened in September 2013, replacing the Thomas Danby Campus. It was demolished in 2018 and the site is now used for commercial purposes. Julia Frankau
Julia Frankau (née Davis; 30 July 1859 – 17 March 1916) was a successful novelist who wrote under the name Frank Danby. Her first novel was published in 1887: ''Dr. Phillips: A Maida Vale Idyll''. Its portrayal of London Jews and Jewish life, and its depiction of murder by a doctor were controversial. This was followed by more Frank Danby novels and by books on other subjects, including engraving, which were sometimes written under her own name. Frankau continued to write until the time of her death. Biography Frankau's father was Hyman Davis (1824–1875), a London portrait photographer, though she and her older siblings were born in Dublin, where Davis practised as a dentist during the 1850s. Thomas Osborne, 1st Duke Of Leeds
Thomas Osborne, 1st Duke of Leeds, (20 February 1632 – 26 July 1712), was a prominent English politician. Under King Charles II (and known at the time as Lord Danby), he was the leading figure in the government for around five years in the mid-1670s. He fell out of favour due to corruption and other scandals, and was impeached and eventually imprisoned in the Tower of London for five years until the accession of James II of England in 1685. In 1688 he was one of the Immortal Seven group that invited William III, Prince of Orange to depose James II as monarch during the Glorious Revolution. He was again the leading figure in government, known at the time as the Marquess of Carmarthen, for a few years in the early 1690s. It was created in 1694 for the prominent statesman Thomas Osborne, 1st Marquess of Carmarthen, who had been one of the Immortal Seven in the Revolution of 1688. Danby Wiske is a village in the district of Hambleton in North Yorkshire, England. It is the main settlement in the civil parish of Danby Wiske with Lazenby. The village lies north north-west of the county town of Northallerton. History Danby Wiske was mentioned in the Domesday Book as ''Danebi''. The lands were the property of ''Kofse'' at the time of the Norman conquest. After 1086 the manor was granted to ''Landric of Hornby''. There were three households, five ploughlands and six acres of meadow. During the late 13th century and early 14th century, the manor was the subject of dispute. Danby is an unincorporated village and census-designated place (CDP) in the towns of Danby and Mount Tabor, Rutland County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 200.
