Danbury Whalers
The Danbury Whalers were a minor league professional ice hockey team in the Federal Hockey League that began play in the 2010–11 season. Based in Danbury, Connecticut, the Whalers played at the Danbury Ice Arena, located in CityCenter Danbury. Their name comes from the Hartford Whalers, who were a professional ice hockey team based in Connecticut and played in Hartford from 1975 to 1997 before relocating to North Carolina as the Carolina Hurricanes. Until the 2014–15 season, the Danbury Whalers were an affiliate of the Evansville IceMen of the ECHL. History On March 22, 2013, the Whalers won their first FHL Commissioner's Cup Title by sweeping the Dayton Demonz in front of a home standing-room only crowd of 3,116 fans. Danbury is a city in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, located approximately northeast of New York City. Danbury's population as of 2022 was 87,642. Danbury Titans
The Danbury Titans were a professional ice hockey team based in Danbury, Connecticut. Replacing the Danbury Whalers, the team was founded as an expansion team in the Federal Hockey League. They played their home games at the Danbury Ice Arena. History On April 3, 2015, the Danbury Ice Arena announced that it did not want to renew its contract with the Federal Hockey League's Danbury Whalers and gave them a notice to evict by April 17, leaving the team homeless. Prior to their eviction, the Whalers led the FHL home attendance for the league's first five seasons. On June 3, 2015, due to the eviction of the Danbury Whalers, the FHL announced a new team based in nearby Brewster, New York, to be called the Stateline Whalers, and would play at the Brewster Ice Arena under former Danbury Whalers CEO and managing partner, Herm Sorcher. Professional Hockey In Connecticut
Professional ice hockey in Connecticut has a rich tradition dating from the mid-1920s. Most of these teams were NHL minor league affiliates located in New Haven, though with the closure of the New Haven Coliseum, minor league affiliates now exist only exist in Hartford and Bridgeport. The Watertown Wolves are a minor professional hockey team in the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) based in Watertown, New York, and play home games at the Watertown Municipal Arena. Williamsport Outlaws
The Williamsport Outlaws were a professional ice hockey team in the Federal Hockey League. The team played the 2011-2012 season in Wayne, New Jersey as the New Jersey Outlaws. Following winning the FHL championship in 2012, the Outlaws announced they would move to Williamsport, Pennsylvania and play all of their games outdoors at Bowman Field while awaiting the completion of an arena in Williamsport. The Outlaws were the FHL affiliate of the ECHL's Elmira Jackals. The Outlaws ceased operations on January 21, 2013 after the team owner refused to play the remaining road games. New York Aviators
The Brooklyn Aviators were a professional ice hockey team based in Brooklyn, New York. The team was a member of the Federal Hockey League and was affiliated with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers. The Aviators played their home games at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. History The franchise was founded in 2009 as the New York Aviators and began play in the North East Professional Hockey League. After the completion of the 2009–10 NEPHL season, the Aviators moved to the newly formed Federal Hockey League.
