''Danaë'' is a 1631–1633 oil on canvas painting by French artist Jacques Blanchard, now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon in France. It shows Danaë receiving Jupiter (mythology), Jupiter in the form of a shower of gold, a union that results in the birth of Perseus. Blanchard is also thought to have painted anothe this one part of the William Suida, Suida-Manning Collection acquired in 1998 by the Blanton Art Museum in Austin, Texas. In art, the term ''painting ''describes both the act and the result of the action (the final work is called "a painting"). The support for paintings includes such surfaces as walls, paper, canvas, wood, glass, lacquer, pottery, leaf, copper and concrete, and the painting may incorporate multiple other materials, including sand, clay, paper, plaster, gold leaf, and even whole objects.
