''Dana H.'' is a play written by Lucas Hnath. The play, based on the real-life experiences of Hnath's mother Dana Higginbotham, premiered at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in previews on May 26, 2019 and officially on June 2. The production was directed by Les Waters and starred Deirdre O'Connell. The play premiered on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre in repertory with the Tina Satter play ''Is This a Room'', premiering in previews on October 1, 2021 and officially on October 17. It closed on November 28. Lucas Hnath
Lucas Hnath ( ) is an American playwright. He won the 2016 Obie Award for excellence in playwriting for his plays ''Red Speedo'' and ''The Christians''. He also won a Whiting Award. Biography Hnath grew up in Orlando, Florida. He moved to New York City in 1997 to study pre-med, and then changed to dramatic writing at the Tisch School of the Arts, at New York University, earning a BFA in 2001, and an MFA in 2002. He teaches at New York University. He is a resident playwright at New Dramatists. ''Red Speedo'' premiered Off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop from February 17, 2016 to March 27, 2016. The play, directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, won the Obie Award, Playwriting and Performance for Lucas Caleb Rooney. The play involves Ray, a competitive swimmer at the start of the trials for the Olympic team. Kirk Douglas Theatre
The Kirk Douglas Theatre is a 317-seat theater located in Culver City, California. Since 2004, it has been operated by the Center Theatre Group. History Built in 1946, as a Streamline Moderne movie palace with a seating capacity of 1,160 (on a stadium plan with no overhanging balcony), the Culver Theatre (as it was previously named) was located near the Columbia Pictures studio lot (then the lot for MGM). It opened on Wednesday August 13, 1947. Originally, much like surrounding downtown Culver City, the Culver was a key part of classic Hollywood's thriving entertainment community. Deirdre O'Connell is an American character actress who has worked extensively on stage, screen, and television. She has won a Tony Award and been nominated for Drama Desk Awards, among other awards and nominations. Early life O'Connell grew up in Massachusetts. Lyceum Theatre (Broadway)
The Lyceum Theatre ( ) is a Broadway theater at 149 West 45th Street, between Seventh Avenue and Sixth Avenue, in the Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Opened in 1903, the Lyceum Theatre is one of the oldest surviving Broadway venues, as well as the oldest continuously operating legitimate theater in New York City. Kristina "Tina" Satter (born 1974) is an American filmmaker, playwright, and director based in New York City. She is the founder and artistic director of the theater company Half Straddle, which formed in 2008 and received an Obie Award grant in 2013. Satter won a Guggenheim in 2020. Satter was described by Ben Brantley of the ''New York Times'' as "a genre-and-gender-bending, visually exacting stage artist who has developed an ardent following among downtown aesthetes with a taste for acidic eye candy and erotic enigmas."
